What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 20-01-2012 bought this beginning of last year based on your say so thanks for that one What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-01-2012 Mellencamp's album gets better with each listen MH What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 20-01-2012 ![]() :thumb: & Fela Kuti - The '69 Los Angeles Sessions ![]() :thumb: A couple of early albums worth a bit of a mention. The Koola Lobitos album is a collection of singles recorded between 1964 & 1968. This material pre-dates Kuti's development of Afrobeat, and consists of tracks which are more like the Latin-tinged Highlife Jazz which was the popular style in Nigeria at the time. The LA album was recorded at the end of Kuti's attempt to establish himself in the US at the end of the 1960s, and the change to Afrobeat is starting to take effect. What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 21-01-2012 ![]() :thumb: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 23-01-2012 ![]() BILLY BRAGG "mr.love & justice" cd,2008. Stephen William Bragg's tenth and latest studio album from 2008... im a big BB fan from way back when, but this has to be the worst album of his career(unless you count Mermaid Avenue II with Wilco). it just sounds like he has run out of things to protest about with conviction IMO. a couple of tracks here about the Iraq situation(singin their souls back home & farm boy), another about civil liberties/justice(o'freedom) and one about the evils of the tobacco industry(the johnny carcinogenic show),,,the rest are a combination of lost love/loneliness songs, even one about the beauty of English beaches(the beach is free)...what a load of old crap!...the English dont have good beaches, and he should know as he has travelled the world numerous times. all in all a dissapointing effort Bill!, time to take your guitar and return to your "two up-two down" in Barking and leave it to the next generation of protest singers to hold the candle! I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: m for me best track: the johnny carcinogenic show tracks: 1. i keep faith ** 2. i almost killed you ** 3. m for me * 4. the beach os free * 5. sing their souls back home ** Billy Bragg "Sing their souls back home" - YouTube live 6. you make me brave * 7. something happened * 8. mr.love & justice ** 9. if you ever leave * 10.o'freedom ** 11.the johnny carinogenic show ** Billy Bragg - The Johnny Carcinogenic Show - YouTube live 12.farm boy * 3s=0 2s=6 1s=6 rating: 1.5 What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 23-01-2012 ![]() :thumb: & Fela Kuti - Gentleman ![]() :thumb: What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 24-01-2012 LINDA PERHACS - Parallelograms (1970) I wish I had discovered Linda Perhacs sooner ! Her voice on this record is one of the most beautiful, eccentric and moving voices that I have ever heard ....truthfully ! Unfortunately this was the only album released by her. She decided to go back to her job as a dental technician ! Genres are Folk-rock and Psychedelica ?...doesn't matter as this record is breathtaking ! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-01-2012 ![]() JOHNNY CASH "american VI-aint no grave" cd,2010. the 6th album recorded with Rick Rubin at the helm... recorded in the june/july of 2003, just three months prior to his death from complications associated with diabetes and parkinsons disease... although his vocals are shaky and weak they reflect his mind and body and the songs chosen to complete this project. the feel of the songs are, dare i say it, more sombre/solomn than anything JC ever recorded prior to this, and the sparse, eerie accompaniment of the music suits it really well, so 10/10 to Rubin for keeping these tracks "real"! I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: cool water best track: aint no grave tracks: 1. aint no grave *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3MkUMzBAUg audio 2. redemption day ** 3. for the good times *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hIii8gFOAs audio 4. 1 corinthians 15:55 ** 5. cant help but wonder where im bound *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXowP1Ss5kA audio 6. satisfied mind *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlShSNc2dMA audio 7. i dont hurt anymore ** 8. cool water * 9. last night i had the strangest dream ** 10.aloha oe * 3s=4 2s=4 1s=2 rating: 2.2 What Are You Listening To? - mtthwibrahim - 25-01-2012 Dance of the Moon and the Sun-Natural Snow Buildings I've made it painfully clear on several occassions the absurd love I have for this album. Today it may be virtually unknown outside uber eccentric internet hipster circles, but if there is any justice in the world, it will be regarded as one of the defining masterpieces of music What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 25-01-2012 ![]() :thumb: & Fela Kuti - Fela's London Scene ![]() :thumb: |
