The Complete Guide to Insufficiency-David Thomas Broughton

One of the most hauntingly beautiful things I've ever heard, recommended for those looking to unearth an absolute gem

Also, Tiggi, what Fela albums do you recommend. So far, all I've heard is "Expensice Shit" and I like it a lot, where should I go from there?

JOHN WILLIAMSON "true blue-the best of the first 25 years" cd,1995.

John was born on a farm in outback Australia back in 1945, he started writing little ditties when in his early teens from his own experiences, by the late 1960s he was writing humorous lighthearted songs for the likes of Rolf Harris.
by 1970 he was starting to record himself.
by 1995 when this double best of set was released he had already had numerous platinum selling albums here in Oz...and has continue to do so since.
i would call him a country/folk singer as his songs fit into both genres. his songs range from comedy type tracks though serious love songs, songs of traditional country life, environmentalist songs, patriotic tunes, songs about our Aboriginals and everything inbetween...either way all songs are performed in a quintessential Aussie style.
John plays all stringed instruments and harmonica and has recieved every country music award available in Australia as well as numerous ARIA awards for his songs.
John released his 40th studio album last year and still tours to sellout crowds around Australia....
IMO he is almost as important to Australian music as AC/DC and Slim Dusty.
the album contains two discs and 43 tracks, all of which i either like or love!
disc one: 2.4
disc two: 2.4

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

I particularly enjoyed this one, Matthew. It's not one of the critic's favourites, but there's some real fire in the hypnotic grooves, and the account of the attack on Kalakuta in Look & Laugh is chilling.

1996 release of a live recording made in Spain in 1988.

As is often the case with Joan, the songs here are mainly covers (Beatles, Leonard Cohen, Sting, & Bob Marley) or traditional. The second half of the album is sung in Spanish, which brings a bit of interest.

Not a great album, but not a bad one either.

RoviMusic 3+/5 stars.

On the laptop.

His seventh album, from 1983.

Ex-Wailer Tosh has released some fine albums, and this has definitely slipped through my net. Sly & Robbie play on this one, just as they seem to play on about 50% of the Reggae albums I've heard. Some excellent Reggae songs, including a reworked Wailers song.

Apparently his most internationally successful album.

Onto the Buy List.

JOHN MELLENCAMP "no better than this" cd,2010.

john's 25th studio album, recieving rave reviews all over the world for this one, but sadly for him, his sales tanked years ago!...and even sadder that the majority of the record buying public will never hear this classic album!
the album was recorded at both Sun Studios in Memphis and the Guter Hotel,San Antonio where Robert Johnson recorded most of his material...
the album was recorded on old original 1950s mono recording equipment, with the band playing live in the studio at the same time, much the same as they used to do it.
John allowed no mixing or production on these songs, recorded only two or three takes of each track and used the best one to be immediately transfered to disc, as is!
its bluesy, its folky, its semi-rockabilly in parts, its totally the best allround album of his career IMO...
the whole thing just sounds so authentic and raw as if it was recorded the same time as Elvis' Sun Sessions...
i cannot pick out one track to say "worst track", as even the **'s come pretty close to being ***'s here
pretty difficult to select a best track also. but after considerable thought i have gone with two that sum up the whole album: "dont forget about me" and "no one cares about me"
