What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 21-11-2011 ^^ Never heard of him. When you said the song This Old House, right away I knew the song, but I couldn't place by who. Surprised when I looked it up to see the biggest hit here went to Rosemary Clooney in 1954. I remembered it by a male artist so I kept looking. Must be Jimmy Deans that I recall, but no clip for it What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 21-11-2011 ![]() 1971 album of first global benefit gig, recorded at Madison Square Garden in 1970. Brainchild of Ravi, executed by GH (the gig, not Ravi...), featuring a stellar cast - Dylan, Clapton, Ringo, Leon Russell, Billy Preston, Klaus Voorman, Carl Radle, Badfinger, Jim Keltner, Jesse Ed Davis, & a host of brass players, & backing vocalists. Ravi & his band kick proceedings off with a selection of Indian music, and it's good to hear a Rock crowd paying due respect. A couple of covers are mixed in with a run of George songs, including Eric reprising his guitar part from the studio version, on While my Guitar Gently Weeps. Bobby sings a run of five songs, before a couple more from George, and a fine finale with all concerned ripping it up with the benefit single Bangla Desh. There's a strong feeling of witnessing an important event on this album, and the ecstatic crowd deserve a mention, too... The back story of the difficulties with the proceeds is an eye-opener !! Question: Does anyone (Griff) know if Clapton only played on WMGGW. That's the only track he's listed for in the CD booklet ?! I know he was not in great shape around this time, but it's a long way to travel for one song... AllMusic 4+/5 What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 21-11-2011 Will listen to this again....sometime..lol ! nice pick ! What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 21-11-2011 Our resident Beatle expert, Gryph will know ! I only know that Clapton played on the studio version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps ....one of the best titles for a song by the way !...is another thread on this to follow ? Tiggi Wrote: What Are You Listening To? - Apostrophe(') - 22-11-2011 It's usually against my principles to say this, but I like this cover better than the original by Rush. What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-11-2011 ![]() WARREN ZEVON "original album series" 5cd boxset, 2009. DISC #1. ![]() "warren zevon", original release date 1976. Warren's second album, but first on a major label and generally thought of as his "debut/1st" album... produced by Jackson Browne, guest appearances by Phil Everly, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, J D Souther,Carl Wilson and Bonnie Raitt along with a host of LA's finest session musicians(apparently?). Wow!...what a surprise IMO....didnt know what to expect with Zevon...only previously knew his "werewolves of london" track(love it) but the rest of his career was and to some degree is still unknown to me. this album, upon this first initial hearing of Zevon, seems to owe a great deal in sound to The Eagles,Elton John(on several tracks) and other Middle Of The Road 1970s artists, not a single bad track here at all, infact three make the 'love' rating and several others came real close to that extra "*". the three i love here are the opening track "frankie and jesse james", a very Elton John sounding track, the final track "desperados under the stars", another great little story that wouldnt sound out of place on The boss' "nebraska" album, and "poor poor pittiful me"...didnt know Zevon was the writer of this one until now. all in all, Zevon appears to be a great story teller on the strength of this one and i look foreward to hearing the remaining four albums in this boxset! "allmusic" rates this one a very high 4.5/5 (2.7) and judging by my score here, its a distinct possibility that one day my score may reflect that of "allmusic" I LIKE THIS ALBUM from the album: frankie and jesse james *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ln-cWuugYN0 live poor poor pittiful me *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3SUJTcc8dE live desperados under the stars *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dnatNMOPjs live audio rating: 2.3 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-11-2011 ![]() WARREN ZEVON "original album series" 5cd boxset,2009. Disc #2 ![]() WARREN ZEVON "excitable boy", 1978. the second disc in this five cd set containing Zevon's first five charting albums.. again produced by Jackson Browne and superstar guest appearances by Mick Fleetwood and Linda Ronstadt... this one reached #8 in the US, the single "werewolves of london" single reached #21 Stateside, top 10 here in Australia, but did not chart in the UK until the early 1980s for some strange reason... strangely enough, i know the title track, it gets a lot of airplay here on retro stations, probably as much airplay as that Werewolves song. that Werewolves song is not the best track on here for me, although i do love it along with three other tracks not sure who to draw comparrisons with on this album...guess he found his own sound with this one?! the subject matter is a bit darker than his previous album...subjects include US invasion of Veracruz, death, murder and assassination by the CIA....Nick Cave would surely be proud! "allmusic" give this one 4/5(2.4) and i give it the same score! from the album: Roland The Headless Thomson Gunner *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpTCjFxCckM live Excitable Boy *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYuRjUO1OcQ live Veracruz *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O2qJ0JXjug audio album rating: 2.4 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 22-11-2011 from my library (vinyl) I needed a good one after yesterdays clunker. Roxy delivers as expected. This fourth release is one of their best for me. The first one to make an impact in the states and a #3 in the U.K. Not a bad track on here, with half of the album get love ranks. Bryan had hit his stride as a performer and the band had gelled. Single of The Thrill Of It All in the U.S. did nothing, but All I Want Is You was a #12 U.K. hit. Hard to talk about this album without mentioning that cover. As I recall, my album was enclosed in brightly colored shrink wrap which obscured the offensive material. I was extremely offended when I removed that. I had trouble convincing the wife that it was purchased for the music. It was later released without the models and just the greenery. I'm sure the music on that one was not as good. I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Triptych Best Track - All I Want Is You Somebody told me Just the other day That you're leaving me We´re through Well if you knew How it hurt me so Then you´d change your mind I´m sure Don´t want to hear What´s going on I don´t care What´s new Don´t want to know About anything 'Cause all I want Is you Going out with other girls Was always such a bore But since I fell in love with you I need you more and more Don´t want to know About one-night-stands Cut-price souvenirs All I want is The real thing And a night that lasts For years. If you ever change your mind I´ve a certain cure An old refrain, it lingers on L´amour, toujours l´amour... Don´t want to learn About etiquette From glossy magazines Why should I try To talk correct Like they do In another scenes Say no more About imagery You´re starting to confuse Just make an offer Of more romance Of course I can´t refuse All I want is you Oo oo I´m all cracked up on you. 1) The Thrill Of It All *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jux5TWdlBng 2) Three And Nine ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvMVs3SE4Ow 3) All I Want Is You *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnElKPMzuBc 4) Out Of The Blue *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9QpI3wVvek 5) If It Takes All Night ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75LZdHe_Jew 6) Bitter-Sweet ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W73AVb7u_9Q 7) Triptych ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeE7t9n7dvA 8) Casanova *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LbBj0x_VRA 9) A Really Good Time *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzRtnwv8eJ4 10) Praire Rose ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUVMlPcNwWc 3's - 5 2's - 5 1's - 0 Grade - 2.5 so many albums, so little time What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-11-2011 Music Head Wrote:from my library (vinyl) good job you got the album on vinyl or you'd need a magnifying glass to look at the artwork!
