You may hear a better one some day !!!!

^ doubt it

I'm listening to Prince's 1979 self-titled. Very underrated, I think it's one of his best albums, infinitely better than Dirty Mind or 1999. Of course it's no Purple Rain or Sign "O" the Times, but so few albums are

On the laptop.

Solo debut from 1992.

I already have this one's successor, and from his subsequent work with Eminem I thought this would maybe suit me.

If torrents of expletives don't offend, there's much to enjoy here, including some very funny moments.

Buy lister.

On the laptop.

Their first (?!), from 1986. This is vintage !!

More white boys doing the Hip Hop thang.

This is one that might appeal to Rock fans, since it plunders the Rock archives for samples. It's funny as well, which is no bad thing, and is one of the reasons I can't resist Eminem.

Good one, onto the Buy List.

My own copy on shiny silver discs.

As mentioned on the previous page.

Over 2 hours of good Hip-Hop on two discs. Guest Rappers are everywhere, but I'm not familiar with most of them. However, Snoop, Method Man, Dre, & George Clinton are amongst the more familiar.

Top quality production means the beats and grooves ram themselves down your throat, whilst the mood of the music is generally fairly mellow.

2Pac's rhyming is far from mellow, though, with some powerful tales of African American life.

Very impressive, and even Mrs Tiggi - who doesn't really enjoy Hip Hop - thought this was excellent.

What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 20-08-2011

Listened to a best of set from 2Pac while on our recent road trip.
My introduction to anything other than a single track, believe it or not.
Was not impressed.

THE TEMPTATIONS "all directions" 1972, from the MH vinyl library....

all i know of these 'soul brothers' is the tracks i have on numerous soul/motown compilation albums so it was good to hear a full studio album, the album reinforces my opinion of the Temptations as being a great Motown act....especially when this album includes the full 11+ minute version of their classic "papa was a rolling stone" song...i wasnt so sure that 11+ minutes would keep me enthrawled when MH told me prior to listening to it but it does!...dont think i'll be able to accept the standard 3minute single version as being definitive again!
Music Head didnt like one track on this album, but it wasnt the song that he didnt like it was the falsetto vocals, he believed they sounded a bit forced and un-natural....but hey, thats his opinion and he's entitled to it!
apart from that one little difference in opinion we both still rated this album 2.1 on the MHRS(music head rating system) which ended a good day of listening to good albums(the others being Nicolette Larson and Dave Gilmore) in near 100F/37.8C heat!
oh yeh!, i had to add this: MH started sing "it was the third of december" instead of "it was the third of september" when it started! LOL!!!
the two tracks i pick off this album with links as per our ratings are:

Extra kudos to Ed for fulfilling his inner Motown singer !!

His sixth in five years, from 2001.

Recently auditioned the third in this series - The Blueprint 3 - and it went onto the Buy List, but it didn't make sense to buy the third installment first, so I ordered this one blind.

It's a bit of a statement of intent of Jay-Z's plan for global domination. He spends a lot of time bigging himself up, but I suppose that's true of most Rappers.

The beats are good, as are his rhymes, but it's a solid album rather than an exceptional one.

this is Marshall Bruce Mathers III finest album!!
his language on this one is not quite as bad as his first three albums(infinate, slim shady & marshall mathers albums) it is still there but in more regulated and neccessary moments.
his melodies are far superior to those of his previous albums only this time he has more to say. songs here include themes about the lack of intelligence/skills in the rap industry, politics, his influence on middle-class white teenagers, hollywood, and of course his dear old mum and ex-wife.
Dre's production work is the best of everything i have ever heard from him IMO. lyrically, Eminem is at the top of his game("recovery" beats it but its several albums down the track), the album is concise, tight, clever, witty and thought provoking to say the least.
he even attempts to sing on "hailies song"??. those little one minute 'skits' that appear on his other albums are still a part of this one and add to the linking of songs, the best link/skit is by far "the kiss" which gives his opinion as to why/how he faced charges of assault and weopons concealing 18 months previously.
i guess this is the reason i love Eminem so much....in that he is willing to lay down his faults, issues etc on the table for all to see, guess you could call it honesty!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM
