jazzboCR Wrote:I agree with your main thrust: This is sludge. But despite all the slatherings of hipness and modernity they tried to coat this with, the central tenet comes through: This woman was hurt by this guy's insensitive actions and his new mate just reveled in the attention and in bitch-slapping her> True since 10,000 B.C. or thereabouts. I cleansed my palate by listening to the original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIsnIt1p978

without a doubt, my faovurite Motown group from that era...
these guys simply could not put a foot wrong(or a note wrong) to my ears...
awesome stuff from an awesome record label, truly unforgettable!
single made it to #1 on the UK charts

Motown had 3-5 groups record every great Holland-Dozier-Holland song, picked the best/most commercially viable, then buried the others. Finally these have come to light, due primarily to the UK's Northern Soul movement. These alternate versions have finally been issued as the "Cellarful of Motown !" series. In nearly every case, I agree with Berry Gordy, Jr. and The Commitees's picks including this one. If you are a Motown fan, however, you owe it to yourself to investigate those that didn't see the light of day 'til recently. CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:DIONNE WARWICK "its love that really counts"-ep 1964

i cant find any info on this release, so maybe it was only released in the UK and maybe it
was a promo tool for an album, well, thats my guess anyway....
four tracks on this "ep", all of them are good, and im not a big fan of Dionne at all, infact other than the singles/eps
that my dad gave me i dont own nothing.
obviously without any info i cannot say whether this one charted in the UK or not.
here's Dionne's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dionne_Warwick

Where would Burt Bacharach be without her...and vice versa?

That "Time-Out" was a wake-up call. You'll notice my absence from that Political Thread...I reserve the right to confront (mildly) any witless tomfoolery encountered though...Still give out with the odd strong opinion--I just think and think again before venting.

CHUCK BERRY "best of...."-ep 1960

a compilation four track 'ep' from Chuck....
im a huge fan of his and i love three of the four tracks on here, liking the other track also...
"ep" appeared not to chart in the UK and its not even on his Wiki page for some reason???
this guy has to be up there with the likes of Freddie Mercury/Robbie Williams as a consumate live entertainer IMO...

SIMPLE MINDS "glittering prize" B/W "glittering prize(instrumental)" 1982

i could never get into these Scotish synth-rock guys back in the day, in fact,
i think i disliked them as much as i disliked The Cure....
when i pulled this single out of the boxes i literally hung my head if only for the thought
that i had to play it...and play it i did, and dislike it-i did!
single peaked at #9 here in Australia

staying in the 1980s now...

WHAM! "wake me up before you go-go" B/W "instrumental version" 1984

George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley got about as close to the real soul/motown sound as any of those
1980s "white boy blue-eyed" wannabe's could dream of IMO....
and this "A" side is about as good as it gets IMO...
hell, i even like the "B" side instrumental version of the song...
they call this an instrumental but its not entirely instrumental, it is really a remix containing the backing vocals
that one still moves, grooves and oozes seriouswhite-boy soul...
single made it to #1 in Australia

CARLA THOMAS "gee whiz" B/W "for you" 1960

its cool to see my dad bought a Carla Thomas single...
known as "the queen of Memphis soul", recorded on the Stax label...
if youre ever in that town, drop in to the Stax museum, its well worth it!
anyway...
"A" side is good but not great...
"B" side is brilliant IMO and probably should have been the "A" side,
but who am i to argue with those Stax guys!
i cannot find where this charted in the UK
here's Carla's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carla_Thomas
