Judy Collins was born on 01 May 1939, in Seattle, Washington, USA. She is a singer/songwriter and musician. Starting out as a folk artist, she has since covered a broad range of material, has 27 studio albums to her credit, and 14 singles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judy_Collins

A couple of items of interest to me; Stephen Still’s “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” was inspired by her, and she recorded Leonard Cohen’s “Suzanne” before he did. Two brilliant songs, IMHO. Here she is with LC, in duet –

John Glascock was born on 02 May 1951. He was a bass player, backing vocalist and occasional lead vocalist for the Rock/Flamenco fusion band, Carmen, and is on all three of their albums. They disbanded in 1975. This is a pretty cool track from Dancing on a Cold Wind – fairly heavy actually – I like it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyQRexzujME … and this is him doing vocal duty on Carmen’s final album – The Gypsies - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=466jGWdEf58.

After Carmen, Glascock joined Jethro Tull with whom he played until his untimely death at the age of 28 from a congenital heart defect (helped along somewhat by the excesses of the rock ’n roll lifestyle). Seems he and Barriemore Barlow were great friends and BB was devastated by his death – himself leaving JT shortly thereafter.

During his short career, John Glascock built up one helluva reputation for his skill as a bass player, even receiving kudos from Ritchie Blackmore, who is not known to hand them out all that easily! He appears on five JT albums from Too Old to Rock ‘n Roll: Too Young to Die to Stormwatch.

You are a mine of information Ruby. My favourite JT track. Where did you find this version. It's not the same as the original release. Very close, but there are subtle differences. Especially Barrie's playing, who incidentally was considered 'the best drummer England ever produced' by none other than the mighty John Bonham.

^Excellent song – fantastic lyrics. This seemed the best clip I could find. I’ve listened to my CD to compare, and aside from the quality of listen being infinitely superior on CD (I hear the separate elements more distinctly), I am not able to distinguish a difference. Is it possible for those elements to become lost or blurred in the transferring/uploading process? I have no idea!

Christopher Cross was born on this day in 1951 in San Antonio, Texas. He had great success with his eponymous debut album which beat Pink Floyd to a Grammy for Album of the Year in 1980, and which generated the hits, “Sailing” and “Ride Like the Wind”. I have the album, but hadn’t taken much notice of the personnel up to now – Don Henley, Nicolette Larsen, Michael McDonald and Michael Omartian to name a few. Not too shabby a line-up! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkgqivm-NwY.

His “Arthur’s Theme” also won an Oscar for Best Song Original Song in 1981.

He has continued to record and perform since then, to much less acclaim, primarily due to his style of soft rock taking a dive in popularity simultaneously with the sudden rise of the MTV generation. He didn’t make a good fit in that respect – video definitely killed this radio star. I wonder how much other excellent music has been lost to us because it doesn't appeal visually! Strange world.

His latest release is Secret Ladder, from 2014, which I’ve listened to and find highly polished and more than creditable. His voice is still great, as is his guitar work, and it seems well produced IMHO. Good for him – sticking to what he does best.

No, the elements won't get 'lost' during uploading/transfer - it's actually a different mix of the same track. - i.e. they left certain parts out of the mix on this one - most noticeably the hi-hat on the drum kit in some places and the bass drum is missing in the opening phrase - there are other differences as well. I know every note of the Heavy Horses album by heart - which incidentally used to be my late father's favourite album in my collection many moons ago. He used to listen to this all the time. Said it was the most intelligent lyrics ever written by a rock musician - and I agree. Fantastic album.

Another bit of useless information - if you buy the remastered Heavy Horses CD it includes 2 new tracks - Broadford Bazaar & Living in These Hard Times. Both are excellent.
