Happy 64th birthday to Marty Roe who is the lead singer of the country band named Diamond Rio.

God bless each past and present member of the band always!!!

Holly (a girl who forever misses country singer Joe Diffie)

P.S. Today would've been Joe's 66th birthday.

John Barlow Jarvis was born on this day in 1954, in Pasadena, California. Classically trained on piano as a child, let’s just say proficient is an inadequate description! Nimble fingers indeed! He appears in the credits of 790+ albums and has performed on releases for Art Garfunkel, Leo Sayer, Ringo, Rod Stewart, Air Supply, John Mayall, Harry Nilsson, Nicolette Larsen, George Strait – the list is endless. Suffice to say, he’s had an illustrious career. He’s won several Grammy's and made six solo records and I dipped into a couple of them. View from a Southern Porch is a title MH might like, despite the fact that everything I’ve heard so far is instrumental.

There’s something heartwarming and very appealing about a lot of his compositions, I think. They could potentially be cheesy but aren’t, kind of thing – and these are positive sounds – filled with ease. Although he spent some decades in Nashville and is associated with many country artists, he has soft (or West Coast) jazz leanings and is not above some electronica. I quite liked what I heard of that too, tinned drums notwithstanding. Hmmm, interesting – not sorry to have loaned my ear to Mr Jarvis today …

Regina Spektor was born on this day in 1980, in Moscow, Russia, moving eventually to the USA at the age of nine where her family were admitted as refugees - they had departed Russia during Perestroika – one of their biggest regrets having to leave behind Regina’s piano as she was already showing great promise. They are Jewish and had been subjected to discrimination in various facets of their lives.

They settled in the Bronx where after some years finding their feet, Regina was again tutored in piano – classical music, at the time. She went on to study composition and then ended up in what is referred to as the anti-folk scene. Not entirely convinced I know what that is! Suffice to say, she started making her presence felt, and has to date released eight albums, the first few self-published. She is a singer-songwriter of quality IMHO – in the pop/folk realm which is a place I don’t venture all that often! I listened to Home, Before and After, her most recent, from 2022 and was especially taken with this song … “Coin” …

When Andy Powell was 14, he joined a little local band that somehow or other opened for The Who - who were likely around 18 at the time so not much older in the grand scheme of things! I guess there is no going on to any other alternative possible career after that!

He was born on this day in 1950, in London, England and he is known as one of legendary twin guitars of Wishbone Ash (along with Ted Turner), as well as being the only remaining original member of that illustrious outfit. He had responded to an ad which is how he got the job in the first place. He sings, as well, and I listened to their most recent release some time ago (posted on the board), which is not at all the same as the early offerings, but the point is that he's still going, a long way further down the line, and acquitting himself not too shabbily.

As a fledgling band, Wishbone Ash also opened for Deep Purple, which was fortuitous, as it tuned out! Whilst one Mr Blackmore was warming up on stage, young and cheeky Andy Powell stood in the wings with his gear and proceed to mimic Ritchie’s licks. This turned into an impromptu jam and resulted in Ritchie Blackmore helping to secure them their first record deal. Kinda weird as he’s not known as the most forthcoming individual on the planet!

I think I need to listen to some of their albums again. This will always be a fav …

Happy Birthday to Neal Schon, born on this day in 1954, in Oklahoma, USA. Best known for his role in Journey and the only remaining original member. He's been in other bands too, Santana and Bad English to name two, as well as having played with Jan Hammer, Paul Rodgers, and a host of other one off collabs besides. Lead guitar, of course.

The commenters are right - WHAT a voice - astonishing.
