Your summary is 100% correct. The reason the tracks are so long is that they allow time for the accompanying chemicals to kick in. Just one point here - that guitar solo on Dogs is blistering. But they are not 'songs' as such - more like instrumental sequences with words attached. Also bear in mind this is just before Waters went into meltdown. One thing I do like about the album is the choice of keyboard sounds even though Waters blasted Wright for not contributing enough. I think his keyboards are the most important part of the instrumentation of the album.

It worked for me!! In fact I took off in 1977 and haven't quite landed yet. Surely that must qualify for some kind of record? And to be quite honest the music on my site is an attempt (albeit a poor man's one) to capture some of that magic that I first heard so many moons ago. Don't think I will ever forget it unless dementia sets in and I can't remember how to switch on a CD player. Floyd opened a door somewhere in the labyrinth of my brain and I went through. Just can't seem to find 'the passage back to the place I was before' The Eagle Has Not Landed - all of which reminds me of a really expansive piece of music called 'The Eagle Will Rise Again' by the Alan Parsons Project, not surprisingly from the same era. Vocals by Colin Bluntstone I think - superb.......it combines 2 concepts I am fascinated by - Egyptian mythology and progressive rock. When they start plastering over the windows that's usually a sign to stop work for the day and give it a rest. I am willing to bet the nearest McDonald's is doing a roaring trade.

Going to dig out Tori Amos's 'Scarlett's Walk' - a concept album if ever there was one, although Miss A denies it (in public anyway). The CD edition comes complete with a map of Scarlett's travels across the USA and a DVD of some geezer in a car with railroad tracks and your typical grain elevator type scene in the background. I think this is a fantabulous album. Favourite track is 'Strange' - Can't remember where I put this one but I think it might be next to the Chardonnay in the fridge. Regardless of where it actually is, it will certainly be fun trying to find it......
