Seeing as there was some discussion about Joe Walsh a couple of posts ago I decided to give YCAWASM a spin this morning. Forgotten how good this was. What a way to start the day!

PAUL McCARTNEY "flaming pie" 1997,cd.

from start to finish it is classic McCartney, a couple of rockers, some blues-rock,acoustic ballads and string arrangements courtesy of George Martin make this one hell of an album.
recorded around the same time as he was compiling material for the Beatle Anthology series, and also while wife Linda was in her darkest days suffering from cancer.
some of these songs date back to his own archives from the 1980's, George Martin is quoted on the inner sleeve as saying "somedays" shows Paul still has what it takes.
a couple of tracks on here with Steve Miller also(who?an aging rocker from the 1970/80s) although not great songs Millers contribution on vocals does do enough to break up the album and add something interesting, Ringo appears on the classic power ballad "beautiful day"...easily one of the top five ballads Macca has ever put to disc IMO. i guess the title track could be called psychadelia not for the piano pumping sound but for the imagery created in the lyrics.
this is Macca playing soley to his strengths, no fillers on this one.....gets a "love" rating from my at a solid 2.6.

NEIL DAIMOND "icon" 2010 cd.

firstly, is Neil really a 'rock/classic rock' vocalist???not so sure, but he doesnt seem to fit anywhere else neither, except in maybe "easy listening" for which there is no genre,
these tracks are from the days when he had a decent voice and sung decent songs...none of the "heartlight" crap from the post 1970s
mini twelve track compilation of ND courtesy of "gotta luv music" whilst driving in her car yesterday afternoon/evening after a trip to the shops with her daughter.
we both love Neil, shame this cd was too short in length, but a good listen nevertheless.
nothing real bad on this one, but a couple of "iffy" tracks IMO,always preferred Elvis' version of "sweet caroline" over Neil's for some reason.
not too keen(meaning like, not love) on tracks 5 and 9 neither, but the rest are typical classic Diamond efforts. my best track here is "song sung blue", Dani is not to keen on "he aint heavy, he's my brother" with her pick of the tracks being "girl, you'll be a woman soon".
i havent got round to explaining the MH ratings system to her yet but she loves this album, guessing i do also with a rating of 2.5.

Vangelis - Reprise. A kind of 'best of' album without some of the best bits.

PINK FLOYD "animals" 2011 remastered version...courtesy of gotta-love-music

ok...for starters,
i'd have never heard this one if it wasnt for Danielle's insistance that i do so, but i did, not sure if one complete listening is really enough to praise or condemn any album, but here goes...
Animals appears to me, lyrically, to be a loose re-write of George Orwell's Animal Farm, whereby the use of analogies of comparing humans to various species of animals to get across a political/social comment....am i correct in this assumption Tiggi and Jerome???
overall, this appears to be a well crafted album and it works well as a remastered disc.
the two Pigs On A Wing tracks are good but at only a solitary minute in length each are too short for my liking.
the songs for the most part seem quite dark on a lyrical level, obvious a forerunner to Waters deep, dark, foreboding follow up classic The Wall.
Dogs, the track, is a reasonable affair IMO but it just drags on too long for liking clocking in at seventeen minutes, thus it gets a borderline like/ dislike for me here, it just doesnt seem to be able to hold my attention for that amount of time.
Pigs(3 different ones) is a reasonable affair, but again too long IMO to get past the "like" rating, some nice guitar stuff happening there though.
Sheep, another good track but i cant listen to three tracks in a row that take up a total of 38minutes....der,boring!!!

i guess with further listens i may get to appreciate the longer tracks a bit more, but on one listen i dont see anything outstanding here, just a reasonable album but without the class of Dark Side Of The Moon and The Wall. if i wasnt under the spell of Danielle, i might say this belongs on a farm in the manure pile....but i am not allowed to even suggest it!!!

I LIKE THIS ALBUM
