Gotta slip one from the doo-wop era in here on occasion. Like it but don't love it. A few too many dum-dum-dum's for me. Noted for being the first successful bi-racial singing group. This was the groups first and highest charting hit. Consisting of five air force gentlemen stationed in Pittsburgh. A high turnover rate was an occupational hazard. The group ended in '65 after numerous attempts to equal the success of this song. This one would be what they were remembered for. Dion brought the song back in 1962 with a minor hit and the Beach Boys released it once more in 1981, going to #18. Don't recall either of those, but the original stays with me.

Lyrics

Well, love, love me darlin'
Come and go with me,
Please don't send me
Way beyond the sea
I need you, darlin',
So come go with me

Come, come, come, come,
Come into my heart,
Tell me, darlin',
We will never part
I need you darlin',
So come go with me

Yes, I need you,
Yes, I really need you,
Please say you'll never leave me
Well, say, you never,
Yes, you really never,
You never give me a chance

Come, come, come, come,
Come into my heart,
Tell me, darlin',
We will never part
I need you darlin',
So come go with me
Yeah!

Yes, I need you,
Yes, I really need you,
Please say you'll never leave me
Well, say, you never,
Yes, you really never,
You never give me a chance

Well, love, love me darlin'
Come and go with me,
Please don't send me
Way beyond the sea
I need you, darlin',
So come go with me

Come on go with me
Come on go with me
Come on go with me

Finally a rap song I can at least say I like. Not a fan of the man though. From his debut album, it was
downhill from there for me. The song got a couple a Grammy nominations, losing out to you know who. The
video did pick up a couple of MTV awards. Had not seen it before now, and I'm guessing it was edited for
lyric content. Can't say much for the music, but the beat gets you into it.

[video=youtube;5qm8PH4xAss]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qm8PH4xAss[/video]

Lyrics

[50 Cent]
Go, go, go, go
Go, go, go shorty
It's your birthday
We gon' party like it's yo birthday
We gon' sip Bacardi like it's yo birthday
'Cause you know we don't give a ****
It's not your birthday!

[Chorus (2x)]
You can find me in the club, bottle full of bub
Look Mami, I got that X, if you into takin' drugs
I'm into having sex, I ain't into making love
So come give me a hug if you into getting rubbed

[Verse]
When I pull out up front, you see the Benz on dubs
When I roll 20 deep, it's 20 knives in the club
Niggas heard I **** with Dre, now they wanna show me love
When you sell like Eminem, and the hoes they wanna ****
But homie ain't nothing change ho's down, G's up
I see Xzibit in the Cutt that nigga roll that weed up
If you watch how I move you'll mistake me for a playa or pimp
Been hit wit a few shells but I dont walk wit a limp
In the hood, in L.A. they saying "50 you hot"
They like me, I want them to love me like they love 'Pac
But holla in New York them niggas'll tell ya I'm loco
And the plan is to put the rap game in a choke hold
I'm feelin' focused man, my money on my mind
I got a mill out the deal and I'm still on the grind
Now shawty said she feeling my style, she feeling my flow
Her girlfriend wanna get bi and they ready to go

[Chorus (2x)]

[Bridge]
My flow, my show brought me the dough
That bought me all my fancy things
My crib, my cars, my clothes, my jewels
Look nigga I done came up and I ain't change.

[Verse]
And you should love it, way more then you hate it
Nigga you mad? I thought that you'd be happy I made it
I'm that cat by the bar toasting to the good life
You that faggot ass nigga trying to pull me back right?
When my junk get to pumping in the club it's on
I wink my eye at ya bitch, if she smiles she gone
If the roof on fire, let the motherfucker burn
If you talking bout money homie, I ain't concerned
I'm a tell you what Banks told me cause go 'head switch the style up
If the niggas hate then let 'em hate
Watch the money pile up
Or we go upside there wit a bottle of bub
You know where we ******* be

[Chorus (2x)]

[Talking]
[Laughing] Don't try to act like you ain't know where we been either nigga
In the club all the time nigga, its about to pop off nigga

#447 - John Mellencamp - Pink Houses - 1983

running recap for me - 3's=27, 2's=20, 1's=7
this one - ***
from the album: Uh-Huh
Written by John Mellencamp
Produced by Don Gehman
Chart action: #8 US

the players:
John Mellencamp - lead vocal
Larry Crane - guitar
Kenny Aronoff – drums, percussion
Toby Myers – bass
Caroll Sue Hill – vocals
Jay Ferguson – vocals

A definite love track for me. Inspired by what would be the opening scene in the video. An old black man
sittin' on his porch watching the world go by. I've been living that scene for quite a few years, so I can
relate. Downer to remember that the song was a mainstay on both of sleazebag John Edwards presidential
campaigns. John McCain used it briefly in his 2008 run before receiving a protest call from Mr.
Mellencamps people. It was pulled. Guess John's a democrat. Focus Ed focus. The song is not about politics
of course. It's about America, something to see baby, little pink houses for you and me.

[video=youtube;qOfkpu6749w]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOfkpu6749w[/video]

Lyrics

There's a black man with a black cat
Livin' in a black neighborhood
He's got an interstate
Runnin' through his front yard
You know he thinks that he's got it so good
And there's a woman in the kitchen
Cleanin' up the evenin' slop
And he looks at her and says, hey darlin'
I can remember when you could stop a clock

Oh, but ain't that America
For you and me
Ain't that America
Something to see, baby
Ain't that America
Home of the free, yeah
Little pink houses
For you and me
Oooh, yeah
For you and me

Well, there's a young man in a t-shirt
Listenin' to a rockin' rollin' station
He's got greasy hair, greasy smile
He says, Lord this must be my destination
'Cause they told me when I was younger
Said boy, you're gonna be president
But just like everything else
Those old crazy dreams
Just kinda came and went

Oh, but ain't that America
For you and me
Ain't that America
Something to see, baby
Ain't that America
Home of the free, yeah
Little pink houses
For you and me
Oooh, little baby
For you and me

Well, there's people and more people
What do they know, know, know
Go to work in some high rise
And vacation down at the Gulf of Mexico
Ooh, yeah
And there's winners and there's losers
But they ain't no big deal
'Cause the simple man, baby
Pays for thrills
The bills the pills that kill

Oh, but ain't that America
For you and me
Ain't that America
Something to see, baby
Ain't that America
Home of the free, yeah
Little pink houses
For you and me
Oooh
Ooooh, yeah...

Never heard this before. Don't care to hear it again. I even tried different clips. The live ones were
worse. The first female MC's to crack the top 20. I still don't know what an MC is, wo that means nothing
to me. It used to be someone that hosts a game show. This track was remixed by a San Francisco DJ. There's
another one. A DJ used to be someone that played music on the radio. Now I don't know what it is. Anyway,
the song was originally a b-side to Tramp, then re-released on it's own. Likewise with the album. The song
was not on the original release, After the success of the single, the album was re-released with it, plus
remixes of other tracks from the original. The song was nominated for a Grammy and the group boycotted the
award show because the Rap category was not televised live. They lost to Young MC. Crap there it is again.

Lyrics

Ah, push it

Oooh, baby, baby
Baby, baby
Oooh, baby, baby
Baby, baby

Get up on this!

Ow! Baby!
Salt and Pepa's here!

(Now wait a minute, y'all
This dance ain't for everybody
Only the sexy people
So all you fly mothers, get on out there and dance
Dance, I said!)

Salt and Pepa's here, and we're in effect
Want you to push it, babe
Coolin' by day then at night working up a sweat
C'mon girls, let's go show the guys that we know
How to become number one in a hot party show
Now push it

Ah, push it - push it good
Ah, push it - push it real good
Ah, push it - push it good
Ah, push it - p-push it real good

Hey! Ow!
Push it good!

Oooh, baby, baby
Baby, baby
Oooh, baby, baby
Baby, baby

Push it good
Push it real good
Ah, push it
Ah, push it

Yo, yo, yo, yo, baby-pop
Yeah, you come here, gimme a kiss
Better make it fast or else I'm gonna get pissed
Can't you hear the music's pumpin' hard like I wish you would?
Now push it

Push it good
Push it real good

Get up on this!

Boy, you really got me going
You got me so I don't know what I'm doing

I don't like this song by Marley or Clapton !
Music Head Wrote:#450 - Wailers - I Shot The Sheriff - 1973

running recap for me - 3's=26, 2's=18, 1's=7
this one - **
from the album: Burnin'
Written by Bob Marley
Produced by Chris Blackwell
Chart action:

the players:
Peter Tosh - Guitar, Vocals, keyboards
Bob Marley - Guitar, Vocals
Bunny Wailer - Percussion, Vocals
Aston "Family Man" Barrett - Bass, Guitar
Carlton "Carlie" Barrett - drums
Earl Lindo - Keyboards

I confess, I prefer the Clapton version. Of course this man deserves all the credit. Bob claims he wanted
to say I shot the police, but thought it would be more government friendly with the sheriff. Didn't think
Bob really cared what the government thought, but there ya go. Turns out Bob was right. Years later when a
group called Body Count realeased a song called Cop Killer, there was much controversy over the lyrics.
The song is from the Wailers fourth album, the last before Peter Tosh split, and the groups name was
changed to Bob Marley & The Wailers. Assume this was released as a single, but I can't see that it charted
anywhere.

[video=youtube;nrnZSLwfzVs]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrnZSLwfzVs[/video]

Lyrics

(I shot the sheriff
But I didn't shoot no deputy, oh no! Oh!
I shot the sheriff
But I didn't shoot no deputy, ooh, ooh, oo-ooh.)
Yeah! All around in my home town,
They're tryin' to track me down;
They say they want to bring me in guilty
For the killing of a deputy,
For the life of a deputy.
But I say:

Oh, now, now. Oh!
(I shot the sheriff.) - the sheriff.
(But I swear it was in selfdefence.)
Oh, no! (Ooh, ooh, oo-oh) Yeah!
I say: I shot the sheriff - Oh, Lord! -
(And they say it is a capital offence.)
Yeah! (Ooh, ooh, oo-oh) Yeah!

Sheriff John Brown always hated me,
For what, I don't know:
Every time I plant a seed,
He said kill it before it grow -
He said kill them before they grow.
And so:

Read it in the news:
(I shot the sheriff.) Oh, Lord!
(But I swear it was in self-defence.)
Where was the deputy? (Oo-oo-oh)
I say: I shot the sheriff,
But I swear it was in selfdefence. (Oo-oh) Yeah!

Freedom came my way one day
And I started out of town, yeah!
All of a sudden I saw sheriff John Brown
Aiming to shoot me down,
So I shot - I shot - I shot him down and I say:
If I am guilty I will pay.

(I shot the sheriff,)
But I say (But I didn't shoot no deputy),
I didn't shoot no deputy (oh, no-oh), oh no!
(I shot the sheriff.) I did!
But I didn't shoot no deputy. Oh! (Oo-oo-ooh)

Reflexes had got the better of me
And what is to be must be:
Every day the bucket a-go a well,
One day the bottom a-go drop out,
One day the bottom a-go drop out.
I say:

I - I - I - I shot the sheriff.
Lord, I didn't shot the deputy. Yeah!
I - I (shot the sheriff) -
But I didn't shoot no deputy, yeah! No, yeah!
