What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 24-01-2012 ![]() Their second album, from 1981. A great album. Lots of doomy, widescreen Post-Punk songs whose closest relative could be the Pornography album by The Cure. There's a confidence on this album that sets it apart from many of their contemporaries, although the Bunnymen were never really lacking in self-belief. Not a laugh a minute, but all the better for that IMV. RoviMusic 4+/5 stars. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 25-01-2012 from my library (cd) These guys are warped. Subject matter of these songs is all over the place. Each line, your hanging on for the follow up. Love the deep voice of Brad Roberts. The music is what fails for me on most of it. Only like half of the tracks on here, and love nothing. Surprised to see this Canadian group is still kicking. More popular in the great white north than here with their debut in '91, The Ghosts That Haunt Me, and the single of Superman's Song. Wasn't till the follow up album of God Shuffled His Feet that the band made it to the states. That one actually did better worldwide than in their home country. This album is the band's third, and the least commercially successful of the first three, till going platinum in Canada. My favorite, the leadoff track, Overachievers, was intended as the first single, then shelved for some reason. Singles released were He Liked To Feel it, My Own Sunrise and My Enemies. That first one about a dude that enjoyed the feel of a tooth being pulled out, was the bands highest charting song yet in Canada, reaching #2. Never even touched the singles chart here, and the album could only manage #78. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Trasck - An Old Scab Best Track - Overachievers Long ago, a woman prayed that her suitors be Repelled so she might serve God, be His only God heard her prayers floating up and his heart was cheered He rewarded her amply with a full beard But then she wondered if she should start to take it easy "Overachiever" might be putting it mildly A student of behaviour psychology Conditioned himself to stick to his studies He grew tired of these routines and tried to drop them But he was caught in his own trap and couldn't stop them And then he wondered if he should start to take it easy "Overachiever" might be putting it mildly Once a man was determined to get into The program for astronauts and go to the moon Finally he was in space, saw the planet Fear struck and he threw up inside his helmet Then he wondered if he should start to take it easy "Overachiever" might be putting it mildly 1) Overachievers ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yca22wn7fWo 2) He Liked To Feel It ** video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmc8EQaFS4U 3) A Worm's Life * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JfF_f5I-dw 4) Our Driver Gestures ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAuwVpS-NXc 5) My Enemies * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n7L8kkbkeg 6) There Are Many Dangers * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8VhuOYnlW8 7) I'm Outlived By That Thing * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv0FYtgAKzA 8) All Of This Ugly ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqbiNqwTJ8g 9) An Old Scab * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3MJPqoI4U4 10) My Own Sunrise ** video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qk93RJJU3X8 11) I'm A Dog * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUNcBxs8qkI 12) Swatting Flies * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E90NHqfjihU 3's - 0 2's - 6 1's - 6 Grade - 1.5 so many albums, so little time What Are You Listening To? - mtthwibrahim - 27-01-2012 Lauging Stock-Talk Talk one of the greatest albums ever made, obviously What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 27-01-2012 mtthwibrahim Wrote:Lauging Stock-Talk Talk An excellent band. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 28-01-2012 from my library (cd) A gift from a mate. Paul's most recent effort and the first for me, other than the Jam/Style Council days. Not sold by this one, his tenth solo effort. Not bad, not great. Only one track that stood out, Find The Torch Burn The Plans, whch I think the background vocals did it. A rather large six tracks just didn't cut it at all. Still, wth sixteen on here, it does pass. A rocky road for Mr. Weller in the U.S. market it seems. Took a while to sell Style Council after the Jam split, and his solo career has never taken off. Each effort has been hugely successful n his homeland though, and he has remainded influentual in the industry. Hooks up with former Jam mate Bruce Foxton on this one. Some tracks resemble some of Elvis's stuff. Not sure who the Simon Dine chap is that all of the writing is done with. The album went to #2 in the UK but never touched the chart here. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Whatever Next Best Track - Find The Torch, Burn The Plans Dream this dream if you can Find you way through the sand Sing like you already own it Our birth and right is to show it Find the torch, burn the plans State your case in your land Scream like you already know it Our deed is all that we owe it Live your life if you can Light the way with all that's at hand Shout like you already know it Our deed is all that we owe it 1) Moonshine ** live - paul weller-Moonshine live - YouTube 2) Wake Up The Nation ** video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HykV37M67MI 3) No Tears To Cry ** video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPaoGccYfAE 4) Fast Car/Slow Traffic * video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxdLSv_Xbbg 5) Andromeda ** live - paul weller-Andromeda live - YouTube 6) In Amsterdam * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxOQeYBZKaw 7) She Speaks * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsx8TTtp7J4 8) Find The Torch, Burn The Plans *** live - Paul Weller -Find the Torch,Burn the Plans.avi - YouTube 9) Aim High ** live - paul weller-Aim high live - YouTube 10) Trees ** live - Paul Weller - Trees - LIVE - YouTube 11) Grasp And Still Connect ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8wecmJbdHQ 12) Whatever Next * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9asALCQhlU0 13) 7 & 3 Is The Strikers Name * video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0i6L1Q9kzU 14) Up The Dosage ** video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6DRsa1FwI8 15) Pieces Of A Dream * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsDJvFqUB60 16) Two Fat Ladies ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri_Y1SBFeUg 3's - 1 2's - 9 1's - 6 Grade - 1.8 so many albums, so little time What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 28-01-2012 ![]() Originally a 2-disc ConcertLive recording - where they record at a gig, then burn the recording to CDs, before flogging the "album" at the end of the show - the demand for which led to it seeing a full-blown release. Recorded at the Brixton Academy in, strangely enough, 2009. PiL's first live outing in 17 years, and former members Lu Edmonds & Bruce Smith are on board with Johnnie, along with newcomer Scott Firth. Every dark corner of the band's history is explored, and this incarnation do the songs ample justice. There was a recent discussion about tampering with live tapes post-recording, and this one was recorded direct from the soundboard with no overdubbing or subsequent mixing. It sounds amazingly good. Great live album. Not scored by RoviMusic. What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 29-01-2012 JON ANDERSON and VANGELIS - The Friends of Mr. Cairo I am on a bit of a roll lately revisiting Yes albums and those released by its' members. This album is fabulous, soothing as well as original. Anderson and Vangelis work well together. Also Dick Morrissey formerly of the British jazz rock group If plays saxophone tremendously on this album. What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 29-01-2012 THE BEATLES - REVOLVER Highlights here are Eleanor Rigby , the haunting ballad, For No One , one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and the experimental brilliance of Tomorrow Never Knows.
What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 29-01-2012 ....i only gave this 2.0 in the beginners guide to PW, and thats with repeated exposure and being a fan...so your score is pretty good on a first time listen. i also only gave two "***" for tracks on the album, #3,#10, both of which you gave "**", the one you gave "***" to, i gave "**" Simon Dine has been a co-producer with PW for several years now and also remixed numerous tracks by him, i know nothing of his other work other than that??!! you heard Elvis in some tracks...i heard Eddie Cochran/Carl Perkins...so theres definately a "50s" sound to some of it towards the end. this was also the album i was unsure of most as to whether you would like or dislike..so a "like" is a relief....phew!
