What Are You Listening To? - gryphon - 20-09-2011

Does that have the track "It's for You" on it ? TDN are the only people documented to have recorded a version of this rare Lennon and McCartney Track.

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells II - stunning, stunning, stunning. This is as close to perfection as you can get. Awesome recording. Every single sound on this album is recorded to perfection. A masterpiece.

Another of my $5 purchases, damn I'm cheap. Have a compilation on vinyl and a few studio albums, but these guys were good enough for a $5 cd. Studio albums never rated that high for me, but they had some damn good singles. Never Been To Spain was always my favorite but 6 other tracks also get a top mark, and nothing bad. Even the covers pass the test. Shambala is my least favorite. Prefer the original by the little known B.W. Stevenson. Mama Told Me Not To Come, Newman's is better. The Show Must Go On was a classic by Leo Sayer, but the TDN version is equally fantastic. One drawback with the group for me was that they seldom wrote their own material. But they could pick em. Or maybe their manager or label or whatever. The hits were good.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Shambala

Best Track - Never Been To Spain

Well I never been to Spain
But I kinda like the music
They say the ladies are insane there
And they sure know how to use it
They don't abuse it
Never gonna lose it
I can't refuse it

Well I never been to England
But I kinda like the Beatles
Well, I headed for Las Vegas
Only made it out to Needles
Can you feel it
Must be real it feels so good
Oh, feels so good

Well I never been to Heaven
But I been to Oklahoma
Well they tell me I was born there
But I really don't remember
In Oklahoma, not Arizona
What does it matter
What does it matter

Whoa, I never been to Spain
But I kinda like the music
Say the ladies are insane there
And they sure know how to use it
They don't abuse it
Never gonna lose it
I can't refuse it

Well I never been to Heaven
But I been to Oklahoma
Well they tell me I was born there
But I really don't remember
In Oklahoma, not Arizona
What does it matter
What does it matter

Eno - Apollo - Atmospheres and Soundtracks. Think this is his best effort so far. The music off this album seems to pop up in a lot of films and documentaries.

Bit of a reach for me on this one, as I haven't been a big fan for years, but once again that $5 bin beckoned me. Fourteenth album for the band, and it is a covers album of some blues classics, with one original thrown in. Some of the blues was unknown by me and leaned more towards rock than blues, which made them better than expected. Sonny Williamson's Eyesight To The Blind was the lone standout for me and 3 tracks were total bombs, making the album barely squeak by. If I had heard this before buying, I probably would not have. Perry gets vocals on Back Back Train, making it my worst. Aerosmith without Tyler is like sex without climax. Amazed Tyler can still do the scream after all these years. Jack Douglas back in the producer seat. The album reached #5 and reached gold status, so the group still has a loyal fan base, although it's wearing thin, as their last 5 went platinum. Although the songs are blues, the rock takes over, to make it not much of a tribute. Those who know these songs will think they are totaly butchered I'm sure.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Back Back Train

Best Track - Eyesight To The Blind

Well well well well...

You were talkin' bout'chor woman
I wish to God that'choo could see mine
You were talkin' bout'chor woman
I wish to God honey... that'choo could see mine
Every time that little girl start to loving... she bring eyesight to the blind

Lord... her daddy musta been a millionaire... 'cause I can tell by the way she walk
Her daddy musta been a millionaire... 'cause I can tell by the way she walk
Every time she start loving... the deaf and dumb begin to talk
Yeah... you know what they say

I remember one Friday morning
We was lying down across your bed
Man in the bathroom was dying... eyes were sad and I stroked his head
And I said... Lordy... ain't she pertty... and the whole state knows shes fine... yeah

And every every every time she start to loving... she bring eyesight to the blind

What a woman I got here
Lean on me baby... lean on me
Oh...

Yes... I declare she pretty and the whole state knows she's fine
Man... I declare she pretty... Lordy Lordy I declare she's fine
Every every every every time she starts to loving... she bring eyesight to the blind
