2 similar scenarios, 2 vastly different outcomes: a country re-takes turf that was historically theirs. In one the US stands passively by, in the other the US goes to war 20+ years ago that still hasn't ended. Russia re-takes The Crimea, Iraq re-takes Kuwait. Discuss.

So, Putin has said to the World "Don't mess with us" and basically threatened a nuclear war! Any thoughts about this?? Also what about airstrikes against Isis in Syria. Should we or should we not go into Syria??

Yes, it's a terrible death but entirely preventable. Also it is thus far confined to African countries that have terrible public health environments. A much greater health crisis for Western countries, especially the US, is that condition fostered by everybody who's growing and merchandising "food"--obesity. About going into or even getting actively involved with that Syrian mess: Haven't we (and the French and the British and the Russians) learned our lesson about getting involved in Middle-Eastern/Near Asian internal squabbles? We're going to solve problems going back 1000 years with a grip'n'grin, mission accomplished, see-you-later policy? How about an iron-ring for now, we''ll -do-biz-with-the-victors-when-it-all-settles-down later policy? Seems to be working with the US vs. Cuba thingie. No, I'm not an isolationist; I'm a realist. Enter a situation when you truly have impact to make a difference. Thus the US in VietNam was a mistake from the start.
About that Russian exceptionalist Putin: the much greater problem is China and it's quiet takeover of a lot of the world's mineral wealth, expansionist policies vis a vis the oceans surrounding, and poisoning the world's atmosphere--Putin's only 1 man; theirs is an ongoing system not dependent on individual personalities. Much the greater long-term danger. The Chinese have gone from being Communist to being quasi-Nazi in one generation--quite an accomplishment. The US has gone from being constrained-capitalist-democratic to being Nazi-flip in about the same period of time--quite a steal.

the US, UK and Australia should load up their planes with bombs and bomb the crap out of the mid-east...
they should give the mid-east Govts an ultimatum...are you with us or against us...their answer will decide whether they live or perish.
i say nuke them...the whole mid-east...level it totally, no excuses,no tolerance,no exceptions!!!!!
now, im not one who supports war(or acts of war) as too many innocent lives are lost on all sides, but if theyre not exterminated now the 'west' will face indiscriminate acts of terror forever and a day.
there will be another 9/11 at some point,somewhere,sometime in the future...
like the IRA used to say in the 1970s-80s..."we've only got to get through once to achieve our goals,the British have to get it right all the time,everytime to stop us"
also, food for thought...
there are one billion Muslims on Earth, if only(and i say,"if only") 1% of those are extremists, that leaves 10 million possible terrorists willing to sacrifice themselves and the lives of thousands of others to achieve some stupid goal of "eternal life of pleasure with x-amount of virgins"....what a load of old crap!
and im not just saying Musims, or singling them out(but they are topical right now)....

Complex questions demand complex answers that don't pay off overnight; I don't think carpet-bombing the innocents is the answer. Remember these are for the most part asymmetric guerrilla groups we are talking about, not some massed, easy-to-see army.
