Dudley Stuart John Moore was born on this day in 1935. He died 0n 27 March 2002 from conditions related to progressive supranuclear palsy. He showed prodigious musical talent from an early age, winning a scholarship to Magdalen College, Oxford where he developed a love of, and talent for, jazz piano. Even once he’d broken into the movies, he loved to play and continued to do so, and to compose, to a fair amount of recognition. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dudley_Moore

Sir Dudley (or the Sex Thimble, as he was jokingly referred to on account of his way with ladies and his short stature) was a great natural comic which was no doubt what landed him some starring roles, notably in ‘Arthur’ with Liza Minelli. Ironically, the disease that killed him mimics the symptoms of alcoholism to the extent that it seems some people mistakenly thought he’d become a lush, just like the character.

Here’s a clip which clearly shows how well he knew his way around a keyboard – and it’s a laugh too!

John Weider was born on this day in 1947, in London, England. Guitar, bass and violinist with Steve Marriot initially, then on two albums for Eric Burdon and the Animals and after that joined Family for a couple of years.

He’s moved away from rock and plays along jazz/new age lines nowadays. There is next to nothing on YouTube that is representative of his later stuff – I’ve listened to samples on iTunes which sound very nice indeed if you’re into that kind of thing. Some excerpts in this bio, (which strangely omits any mention of his time with Family) http://www.powerhits.dk/?l=artist&id...&t=John_Weider

He co-wrote and recorded Sky Pilot with Eric Burdon and the Animals, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BP0IXOr9O8U and he plays the bass and that violin towards the middle of No Mule’s Fool – his first recorded single with Family …
