Aladdin Sane-David Bowie

The proble I have with Bowie is that, as great as his music is, I can never enjoy him as much as I feel I should. When I listen to something like Tim Buckley or Pere Ubu, something clicks with me, but when I listen David Bowie (as well as Neil Young btw) all I feel is "man, this is a great tune". A big part of music is the connection I make with it, and if I can't make that connection, the experience has so less value. But in terms of simple musical value, this is a great album

Elton John - Blue Moves. I think this and GYBR are his two best albums.

Next is going to be Blues for Salvador - Carlos Santana. Love the track 'Bella' - dedicated to his daughter if I remember correctly.

As you can see my CD collection is colour-coded!

And then we are going to change hue to Tangerine Dream. Phaedra. I can just hear the rest of you going - 'Oh God, when is he going to get over the 70's'. Sometimes I just like having something playing that I don't have to actively listen to so that I can actually get some other stuff done that needs doing. Electronic music provides that environment. 'Wallpaper music' as opposed to The Spice Girls' which is 'Climbing the Walls' music.

thankfully i dont own any Spice Girls music, but i have to admit to owning Geri Halliwell's "schitzophonic" debut solo set, thankfully it wont come back around in my play rotation for another three or four years...

OK next up is Rick Wakeman's 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth' - a musical interpretation of the Jules Verne novel. I can't even begin to count the number of times I played this album - head glued to the speaker - (that was before I figured out how stereo works) when I as a kid. It has always fascinated me. And when that Moog kicks in I am transported to another place. Beam me up Scotty.

JOHN LENNON "live in New York City", cd.

i know what some of you may be thinking!...he hates Lennon, well, no i dont i think he is brilliant both with The Beatles and as a solo artist. i just have a great dislike for one song....imagine.
i have several problems with this cd:

1.where the bloody hell are the bass tones on this one?
2.Instant Karma...sounds lightweight like an "idol" performance and doesnt have the oomph! of the original studio recording
3.a cover of hound dog was not warrented, another song i dislike(yes, i even dislike Elvis doing it!)

now the positives:

there's only one IMO, and that is there seems to be so little of Lennon 'live' that has been released so any Lennon solo 'live' is worth its weight in gold to listen to!

tracks:

1. new york city **

2. its so hard **

I have a copy of Melanie C's Northern Star album, and it's quite good.
