Marshall Mathers' breakthrough from 1999.
I've always thought he's one sharp Dude. If you ignore the profanity, what you have is a clever mix of what he really thinks, and writing in-character so he always has an easy way out of the controversy he creates.
I've always admired the way he mocks his critics, and anticipates and responds to the criticism his work is bound to generate in his rhymes.
Much of this album concerns moral dilemna, and he argues both sides with considerable articulacy. Equal parts disturbing, and laugh-out-loud funny.
Great album.
AllMusic 5/5 stars.

nice one Tiggi,
as a big Eminem fan i find that each album represents a chapter of his life and see it as a way of self-counselling/therapy by seeing the funny side of all the crap he has been through.
i remember when i first heard of him all i heard was the bad press about his lyrics etc so i went out of my way to listen to him to see what all the fuss was about...my first thoughts were "this guy is just taking the p!ss and saying what we think"...plus he is bloody funny as well.
