RE: my Dad's vinyl... - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-05-2020 BEATLES "please, please me" vinyl 1963 their debut album. half the tracks are covers (as was generally the case back then for just about everyone). their skills as writers/songsmiths are evident here already, tracks are better than most of what was then in the charts. also listening, its amazing how quickly they evolved between "love me do" and "revolver" just four years later. arguably the greatest/best debut album of all time I LOVE THIS ALBUM side 1: 1....I saw her standing there *** 2....misery *** 3....anna(go to him) *** 4....chains *** 5....boys ** 6....ask me why ** 7....please please me *** side 2: 1....love me do ** 2....PS I love you *** 3....baby its you *** 4....do you want to know a secret ? *** 5....a taste of honey *** 6....theres a place ** 7....twist and shout *** 3s = 10 2s = 4 1s = 0 rating: 2.7 lets go for this folky ditty. RE: my Dad's vinyl... - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-05-2020 FREDDIE & THE DREAMERS "Freddie and the dreamers" vinyl, 1963 their debut. was never a fan(apart from a handful of singles)and still not after listening to this one. had limited success in their homeland for a couple of years as did they in the US as part of the dregs of the British Invasion. albums actually started off really well which surprised me then by the second side it was all downhill thanks to abysmal covers of "money", "crying" and "Kansas city". was enough tracks to love on here that made it pass the grade though I LIKE THIS ALBUM side 1: 1....if you gotta make a fool of somebody *** 2....some other guy ** 3....somebody elses girl *** 4....zip-a-dee-doo-dah * 5....yes i do ** 6....drink this up it'll; make you sleep ** 7....I understand *** side 2: 1....Sally-Anne * 2....im a hog for you ** 3....the wedding ** 4....money (that's what i want) * 5....crying * 6....he got what he wanted (but he lost what he had) * 7....Kansas city * 3s = 3 2s = 5 1s = 6 rating: 1.7 RE: my Dad's vinyl... - CRAZY-HORSE - 26-05-2020 ![]() GOERGIE FAME & THE BLUE FLAMES "fame at last!" vinyl, 1964. UK jazz muso's, second album. sadly didn't own anything prior to being given this and another one but I should have. so I put the album on the turntable, was slightly disappointed as it skipped every so often on the opening track but that's as far as the damage went. bought back some memories of me as a young lad, whilst the other kids were rocking round the clock (well to Bay City Rollers) I was hopping and bopping to the sound of Beatles and Georgie Fame in my parents lounge room. huge fan of the dude and his style, hear a lot of Bobby Darin in his sound along with the ever present Hammond Organ whose sound I love immensely for some reason... mainly covers on here but I don't care as I love his arrangements and overall sound. no surprise that.... I LOVE THIS ALBUM side 1: 1....get on the right track baby *** 2....let the sunshine in *** 3....the monkey time *** 4....all about my girl ** 5....point of no return ** 6....gimme that wine *** side 2: 1....pink champagne ** 2....monkeying around *** 3....pride and joy ** 4....green onions ** 5....I love the life I live ** 6....im in the mood for love ** 3s = 5 2s = 7 1s = 0 rating: 2.4 couldn't decide on one track to post so heres the second one: RE: my Dad's vinyl... - CRAZY-HORSE - 27-05-2020 NEIL SEDAKA "oh Carol!" vinyl, 1970 a compilation of early 1960s singles. again, bought back a lot of memories, this was the album I used to listen to a lot as a child. pure class as a pop songwriter. I LOVE THIS ALBUM side 1: 1....Oh Carol! *** 2....next door to an angel ** 3....king of clowns *** 4....happy birthday sweet sixteen *** 5....stairway to heaven *** 6....breaking up is hard to do *** side 2: 1....one way ticket *** 2....calendar girl *** 3....little devil *** 4....sweet little you ** 5....run Samson run *** 6....you mean everything to me ** 3s = 9 2s = 3 1s = 0 rating: 2.8 posting a couple that rarely get radio play: RE: my Dad's vinyl... - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-05-2020 ![]() LONNIE DONNEGAN "my old mans a dustman" vinyl, 1961 ten track compilation. they used to call hum "king of skiffle". without Lonnie, Paul,John and George may never have picked up guitars. some novely songs, skiffle, bluegrass, folk. I LOVE THIS ALBUM side 1: 1....my old mans a dustman *** 2....gamblin' man *** 3....Michael row the boat ** 4....have a drink on me *** 5....frankie and johnny ** side 2: 1....Cumberland gap *** 2....Wabash cannonball *** 3....don't you rock me daddy-o *** 4....Tom Dooley ** 5....San Miguel * 3s = 6 2s = 3 1s = 1 rating: 2.5 RE: my Dad's vinyl... - CRAZY-HORSE - 31-05-2020 NEIL DIAMOND "stones" vinyl, 1971. his seventh studio album. first up ive got to say that im underwhelmed with this one, I mean the dude is supposed to be a songwriter first and foremost with a decent track record to that point of writing numerous hits for others, then along comes this album and the vast majority on here are written by others. that said, its a good album, only tracks I love are his ones and I don't see why he needed a reprise of "I am...I said" at the end of the album, just seemed irrelevant when he could have put on another track because after all, its hardly a concept album but..... I LIKE THIS ALBUM side 1: 1. I am I said *** 2. the last thing on my mind ** 3. husband and wives ** 4. Chelsea morning ** 5. crunchy granola suite *** side 2: 1. stones *** 2. if you go away ** 3. Suzanne ** 4. I think its gonna rain today ** 5. I am I said (reprise) * 3s = 3 2s = 6 1s = 1 rating: 2.2 RE: my Dad's vinyl... - Ruby - 31-05-2020 ^Love that song, and the clip. My dark side can't resist a bit of a giggle at "I ham" tho.
