RE: Covid-19 - CRAZY-HORSE - 18-03-2020

ive just come to the conclusion that whenever theres an emergency or shortage we still have enough cigarettes and alcohol on the shelves.

RE: Covid-19 - CRAZY-HORSE - 18-03-2020

Bloody Crazy times indeed!

and now we have Police patrolling the local supermarkets to ensure law and order remain after fights, assaults, stabbings, thefts are the order of the day over bloody food, toilet paper, sanitiser etc etc

RE: Covid-19 - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-03-2020

went to my GP earlier today to get the results of my six month diabetes check...all is well BTW

anyway,
had a little conversation with her about this panic over Corona.
she believes the media have created all this panic along with social media who have blown it out of all proportion.
like she said, the Flu infects, hospitalizes and kills more people per annum than this ever will.
she also said that by Easter she believes the Australian Govt will close ALL schools and non essential services.

that's the opinion of a medical professional.

RE: Covid-19 - Jerome - 20-03-2020

Almost a quarter of a million people now infected.

RE: Covid-19 - Jerome - 20-03-2020

Lots of businesses and people pulling together to get through this crisis. Banks deferring payments etc. etc. Of course there's one industry that is not making any concessions - the insurance industry. I got bombarded this morning with insurance companies trying to sell me policies. It's a bloody disgrace. They are absolutely ruthless.

RE: Covid-19 - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-03-2020

after mentioning about cigarettes and alcohol the other day we are now being told by the big supermarket chains that the delivery of both of those take second place to food/essential items hitting the shelves take priority.

I wonder if we'll still be able to buy this beer?

the UK could start human trials on a vaccine as early as next month: https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/world/coronavirus-vaccine-trials-could-start-in-uk-within-a-month/ar-BB11qXJ5?ocid=spartanntp

RE: Covid-19 - Ruby - 20-03-2020

What the hell – Italy’s number have just spiraled out of control – it’s terrifying – nearly 6,000 new cases reported today!! Their doctors and nurses are heroes - don't know how they are managing to keep going - it's like a war zone. Terrible. And there are other countries following suit. Sad This is the site I’m keeping an eye on because of stats and info it provides – cases per million, etc., and it’s updated regularly – very well put together. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Our government has now taken a few more measures - banned sales of liquor by all and any establishments, including restaurants after 18h00 and before 09h00 on weekdays and Saturdays, and no sales after 13h00 on Sundays and public holidays. Gatherings are not allowed (not exactly sure what constitutes a gathering) and you may not have more than 50 people on the premises of a place that sells liquor and they should be at least 1 meter apart – yeah right. I’m surprised they haven’t locked us down completely – it’s coming shortly, it must.

Seems there will be some financial relief available, details of which are a bit sketchy - repo rate dropped by a percentage point and prime along with it. It's impossible for people to cope without their wages and a huge percentage of the population can’t buy or store supplies, bulk or otherwise. We’ve also had a governmental decree regarding pricing of certain staples which may not be sold for more than ‘x’ – it’s appalling that there are opportunists already out there selling bags of rice etc., for outrageous prices. Dept of Public Works has been tasked with identifying and preparing buildings for quarantine and isolation – there are many millions of people living in very close quarters and if we follow the same trajectory as Italy, it will be absolute carnage. We aren’t as well equipped as they are – the medical care system is already stretched and will simply collapse - amen. We have to manage this thing or the consequences don't bear thinking about.

On exponential growth, especially in relation to this virus –https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=521&v=Kas0tIxDvrg&feature=emb_logo

And on a more positive note, I don’t know how true the reports are of clear canals in Venice and swans and dolphins reappearing in the water, not to mention ducks and wild boar roaming around Italy’s streets and splashing around in their fountains, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all and it’s a lovely thought. Give nature a break and she’ll take it all back in no time at all. Time to take stock and reassess a few things!!
