Agree - I have used the oboe (albeit synthesized) on my own middle eastern-themed music as well. It just slots in with that type of groove so easily.

Just came across this guy on SiriusXM. Othello Molineaux. Steel pans may not be the most exotic instrument in jazz but sure comes close --and then there's that elegant name... Sure. there's Andy Narrell but he plays Caribbean music (Caribbean Jazz Project)--Mr. Molineaux takes standards and makes them his own. Sadly for us fans but good for him, Mr. Thielemans has announced and acted upon his retirement. At 92, he's surely entitled but it leaves us with few options on this instrument and nobody of his caliber (IMHO).
