Dad would not blow his nose. It's gross but he would be sitting in a chair pulling his bloody lungs out of his nose with his fingers. Lungs are made up of a sponge like material. Mom has bronchitis alot now because the COPD is taking it's toll. She is on oxygen with medicine 4 times a day not counting singular, advair, and combivent.

My Dad had part of his lung taken out years before he finally past from septic shock. He quite smoking awhile back but the damage had already been done. He suffered alot!! He was also a diabetic which didn't help.
