What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-08-2011 nice post SteveO.... im not a big fan of these guys but i love this album What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-08-2011 ![]() JETHRO TULL "A", 1980 vinyl...another from the MH vinyl library. my knowledge of Jethro Tull isnt really what it should be considering their supposed 'genius' status, and i probably didnt pick a real good album to judge their career by seeing as this one was released well past their creative peak. but this was the only one of their albums i came across in the section of albums i went through so i picked it. a folky band delving into electronica didnt really do it for myself and Music Head with ratings of 1.4 and 1.6 respectively keep this one in the "do not like" basket, although MH did like six songs(1,2,3,4,5,8) and me only tracks 1,2,3, i cant remember what MH's favourite one was but mine was track 2. from memory MH said he cant understand why people love this band(if i miss quoted him, he can correct it!). but i am not prepared to judge them on this album, IMO it would be like judging Neil Young on his Geffen years! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-08-2011 ![]() IRON BUTTERFLY "ball" 1969, vinyl...from the Music Head vinyl collection! yeh,yeh,yeh....im still working through the MH library....on our downtime inbetween roadtrips we usually listened to five or six albums a day, three of which we reviewed, most of which i was allowed to pick in order to hear music and/or artists i knew nothing of! the Butterfly, on their first two albums delved highly into psychadelia, however this one, their third album seemed to be more a mix of heavy rock, prog rock and psuedo-soul songs and well worth me taking a look at their other material from around the same period. this one recieves a 'like' rating from both of us with MH giving it a 2.0 and me giving it a fairly solid 1.7 on a first listen. the pick of the tracks are: in the time of our lives ***(MH) and ** from me it must be love *** from both of us! unfortunately there are no youtube links for either of these tracks! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-08-2011 ![]() DAVID GILMORE "about face" 1984....from the MH vinyl library! i am familliar with Dave through his work with Pink Floyd(and love his PF "division bell" album) but not as a solo artist, so again i picked this one and wasnt dissapointed.... some tracks here are decidedly very Pink Floyd sounding, others, you wouldnt know! Steve Winwood plays keyboards on this one,UK 1980's soul singer Sam Brown sings backing vocals and at least one track was co-written by Who legend Pete Townshend, all in all quite an impressive album upon first listen....another one to add to my "buy" list. Music Head rates this one a solid 2.1 and i give it an impressive 1.8 on a first listen. the pick tracks as we rated them are as follows: murder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xBwpMrCLhk live love on the air http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl4IIeAOR9s live out of the blue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSMxjrIJwHU live What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-08-2011 ![]() GENTLE GIANT "octopus" 1972, vinyl...from the Music Head vinyl library not sure as to why i picked this one out, but probably because i hadnt heard of these guys....and in hindsight it was a mistake! at least i heard them and this is their third album so they should have been at the top of their game. this is boring, crappy prog/artsy rock which i dont generally like and this album does nothing to make me change my mind, i guess the bonus is that both MH and I feel the same way about this album....so its not just me!! we both rate this one in the dislike range of scoring, both giving it a 1.4. not one single track here that we loved with five of the eight we both dislike and only three 'likes' each(allbeit different tracks). WE DISLIKE THIS ALBUM! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-08-2011 ![]() BILLY JOEL "glass houses" 1980,vinyl. from the Music Head vinyl collection yes, i do have this album....i just wanted to hear something familiar on my last day before leaving Kentucky. this was the album that turned the piano man from ballader into fully fledged rockstar material, this one contains a couple of worldwide smash hit singles "you may be right" and "its still rock n roll to me" plus his usual style of song hit "dont ask me why", the only track here that MH doesnt like is "C'Etait Toi" which includes french lyrics, only "close to the borderline" and "through the long night" fail to do it for me, however i have a few more "love" songs here than MH and my score is higher than his 2.3 to 2.1. from the album: you may be right http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuIr0Mwcb9o live dont ask me why http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NVABxCrTJ0 live What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-08-2011 ![]() THIN LIZZY "johnny the fox" 1976....from the MH vinyl library i like the Lizzy but i dont have this album which is why i opted to get MH to give it a whirl..... what can i say other than its a Thin Lizzy album, full of good bluesy rock riffs and great PL vocals, the only great discrepancy between our two marks per track here is that MH gave "borderline" *** and i only gave it *???? strange indeed that we werent even close with that one for some reason! i did however give "rocky" and "massacre" *** as opposed to ** by Music Head. MH gave "boogie woogie dance" * simply because he doesnt like the word "boogie woogie" in songs or song titles....i can see his point because...what the hell is a boogie woogie anyway? anyway, i rated this one slightly higher than MH 2.1 to 1.9 which still means we like the overall album. from the album: borderline http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IdiCHk0O2I audio rocky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRS0X6XHWyI live johnny the fox meets jimmy the weed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6kRNwHZW5s live What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 26-08-2011 Bob Dylan - Together Through Life - 'Beyond Here Lies Nothing' is just superb. What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 27-08-2011 ^ I've been highly impressed with the last couple of normal Bobby releases... What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 27-08-2011 Me too - he's like good wine - it takes a long time to sound that gravelly and still deliver thought-provoking lyrics. The man's a master. He has gone through so many stages in his career and he just keeps on trucking....... |
