Died on this day ... - Ruby - 29-05-2015
Jeff Buckley died on this day in 1997, moreâs the damn shame. An accidental drowning â no drugs or alcohol found in this body â just the incomprehensible and terrible snuffing out of a great talent.
I prefer his rendition of âLilac Wineâ to any other as do I his version of âHallelujahâ which has been done to death (sorry to say, and with all due respect to Mr Cohen), and which still moves me when itâs Jeff's voice; he put his entire being into whatever he was singing, and he didnât like being compared to his father which I guess would be for many reasons, not just musical, as is evidenced in this clip from his Grace tour - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjO4IenAyUw.
He executes Benjamin Brittenâs âCorpus Christi Carolâ in an absolutely pure falsetto that is worth listening to simply for the chilling final note â no voice training â incredible - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bur7xRt_C0.
And now Iâm going to get out my CD â

Agree with your Hallelujah comment....
"grace" would have to be one of the greatest debut albums by any artist ever...
Others that spring immediately to mind for me would be:
The Clash " the clash"
Sex Pistols "never mind the bollocks"
Beatles "please,please me"
Ocean Colour Scene "mosely shoals"
Who "my generation"
Elvis Presley "Elvis Presley"
Just to name a few....
