Jimmy Destri was born this day in 1954, in Brooklyn, New York. He plays keyboards of all descriptions and was instrumental in the song-writing department for Blondie, along with Deborah Harry and Chris Stein. He has 28 songs to his solo or co-writing credit on eight of their albums. (He also released a solo effort which is entirely forgettable, I’m sorry to say!)

“Atomic” from the Platinum-selling Eat to the Beat, was one of Blondie’s biggest hits and was co-written by Destri and Debbie Harry –

Mr. Bega may be only known as a 1-hit wonder but he's had a pretty good career as a stage performer and show host. Well-known for taking other songs and making them his own (as was demonstrated). He's German of Italian and Ugandan descent--quite a combo for the Mambo.: http://www.lou-bega.com/

I have Perez Prado's original on PP compilation...
Its a very good disc IMO.
Lou Bega had another minor hit in Australia, can't recall its title but I'll check it out when I get home...

The Rev sure has had an interesting (for which read: "turbulent) life. One example: had boiling grits dumped on him in the bathtub. He wouldn't marry her, and after which, she killed herself. That's inspired if crazed passion, folks. His Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Green << Reasonable Discog inside but go for a very good comp.
One song from this soulmaster isn't enough so to back-fill Bro MH's clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9YIq0oNiSM << There was not 1 set of dry knickers in the house--I guarantee it--and I specifically include the gay women present. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICKToz7BLLA << On top of his game--ain't holding nothing back but totally in control = Soul Master
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2IpoTKnDPw << Has resulted in a lot of horizontality... And, it is to be hoped, mutual beneficiality.

An oddment worth your time: http://www.allmusic.com/album/love-ritual-rare-previously-unreleased-1968-76-mw0000204746 << He's going long-form and kicking against the traces.

Born on this day in 1945 – Brit guitarist par excellence - Ritchie Blackmore.

Recognised by various aficionados as being one of the best rock guitarists of all time, his career began with The Outlaws in the early 60’s; he did a lot of session work on singles for other bands too. In 1968 he joined the newly formed Deep Purple, moved on to his own band Rainbow in 1975, came back to DP for a brief stint in 1992, and finally settled down to Blackmore’s Night, a project with his wife, Candice.

He’s left rock behind now, having always had a penchant for, and interest in, things medieval/baroque (a common thread that actually shows up all the way through his work), and is often to be found wandering around in tights – I jest not, LOL! Or at least he was - perhaps things have changed. Blackmore’s Night is more folk and vocally oriented and while quite beautiful in small doses, can become a little bit cloying (IMO). Personally, I prefer his Rainbow moment. So without further ado, from Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, with the phenomenal Ronnie James Dio – "Catch the Rainbow" …
