RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-12-2022 TONI CHILDS "the woman's boat" cd, 1994 her third of six and final to chart anywhere (#24 AU)... if i am going to be honest this is not a patch on her first two albums IMO. very lacklustre and blah-blah, that said i still love her voice and unique vocal tones... I LIKE THIS ALBUM (but barely) only single released from it (cool live version IMO) RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 31-12-2022 Must say - I never expected to be posting Franco Mussida in this thread ... but here we are! Jazz/rock is why. Felt like something a little off the beaten track and stumbled upon this because of one track "Himalaya" and the strikingly simple yet effective imagery - Racconti della tenda rossi (Tales from the red tent) ... ![]() I'm not crazy about the whole album but there are at least four decent tracks - some quite experimental and not necessarily what one might expect from a giant of Italian progressive rock with genius guitar skills. Anyhoo - I don't mind the language barrier and there are a couple of nice instrumentals so it was interesting, and now I know - and I kinda like that it wasn't formulaic. The track that piqued my interest ... RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 04-01-2023 ROBBIE WILLIAMS "life thru a lens" cd, 1997 ex-boy band member (Take That)... his debut solo album... soft rock, easy listening and pop-rock is what i would call it but the experts label it "britpop" also... contains his signature tune "angels" and the concert crowd pleaser "let me entertain you"... yet these two songs are only two of an excellent set of songs I LOVE THIS ALBUM i will choose a single to post because i love his videos: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-01-2023 ![]() COLIN HAY "now and the evermore" 2022 borrowed from a work colleague as a recommendation... ex lead vocals/writer for Men At Work... its easy to blink and miss his fourteen album solo career... ive previously heard a couple of his early solo albums and they werent too bad (slightly folkie)... this one is still folkie but also contains soft-blues rock... the voice is still recognisable and i think the songs are well constructed but... they are much too much of a muchness, that said, im not going to knock the guy as he is still out there after 40 odd years recording/touring and a regular member of Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band so cudo's to someone who could have easily retired in 1984 to live off the royalties of "down under", album is quite reflective in nature and isnt bad overall I LIKE THIS ALBUM title track: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 15-01-2023 HARRY STYLES "harry styles" cd, 2017 his debut solo album after leaving One Direction... a couple of ballads but mainly soft rock on this one and a touch of pop... a solid album indeed (i should really rank his albums and the 1-D albums also), i guess his could be called a guilty pleasure as i own all five One direction albums and all three of his solo albums... album ranks at 2.4 I LOVE THIS ALBUM his debut solo single: RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 22-01-2023 Having a lovely soft rock wallow in Dan Fogelberg's The Innocent Age. Many good songs on this double album - from a much saner era! Talented songwriter and musician - gone way too soon. The epic closer - reminds me a bit of Shawn Phillips ... And one for MH ... RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-01-2023 HARRY STYLES "fine line" cd, 2019 his second solo album... soft rock/easy listening for the most part with a splash of pop for good measure... first half of the album is fairly predictable with its sounds but the second half gets a bit more interesting... hearing some Neil Finn influences on here and there and i must say that the non-single tracks are the best IMO. nothing to dislike on here and plenty to love, album would rate a healthy 2.4, same as his debut but a couple of the standout tracks eclipse everything on that other album I LOVE THIS ALBUM (but i dislike the cover art) favourite has a video yet wasnt released as a single. RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 27-03-2023 CLIFF RICHARD "im nearly famous" vinyl 1976 from a friend.... his eighteenth studio album... was never really a big fan but he has his good moments every now and then... very little on here that i like except the two hit singles, both of which i love... I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM favourite: and its equal favourite: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 01-04-2023 1927 "...ish" 1988 Aussie soft rock band... not my cd by a work colleague. one of their singles was played on the radio at work a couple of days ago and i mentioned that i loved the song but never purchased anything by them back in the day but wished i had. anyway, one of my colleagues, Lynne, said she had one of their cds in her car and i could borrow it, so i did... so this is their debut album of four and it sounds as good as i thought it would be, solid catchy well written soft rock songs on here and well worth borrowing, now to see if i can buy some of their material... album reached 5x platinum here and had two top 10 singles and another two top 20 hits to boot... I LOVE THIS ALBUM favourite, the fourth single, i cant decide whether this is an anti-war song, a tribute to those who serve or simply a combination of both but either way, a great tune IMO Remember the times when we were kids Playing war games in your yard Everybody had to be a hero And get one in the heart Night would fall and we'd call a truce And all go home. Years went by we were average guys Playing life by the rule of thumb Till a man came on the TV Talking 'bout war like he wanted one He said "Everybody put your backs to the wall Till your numbers called". You've gotta go and be a hero I've got a new game for all you boys Its war without a choice Compulsory hero Just try and make it home. Grandpa heard the call to all For a war to end all wars And your dad went off to do his bit And he had to go one more You've really got no say in it You have to fight And thats the law. You've gotta go and be a hero They made a law you had to go fight One more crazy war Compulsory hero Just try and make it home. So all that had to be heroes Went off to do their chores None of them really wouldn't of known How far a bloody war goes They're dying to make it home. Then I think back on all those times Playing war games in your yard Everybody had to be a hero Back then that wasn't hard Night would fall on the battle zone And we could all go home. You had to go and be a hero They made a law that you had to go and fight One more crazy war Compulsory hero Just try and make it home Just try and make it home But whose gonna make it home album, after a couple of listens, is just as good as i thought it would be RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-04-2023 WILLIE NELSON "stardust" cd 1978 a revisit... more jazz ans easy listening than anything else... his 22nd studio album and biggest seller by a long way with 8 million worldwide sales... i used to love this album and up until several years ago it was my favourite of his so was a bit surprised by my lack of enjoyment this time round... yes, i still like it but it isnt in the same league as some others which have grown on me a lot in recent years namely "red headed stranger", "to lefty from willie", "the troublemaker" and a recent album "thats life!".. that said though, I LIKE THIS ALBUM favourite: sorry, was hoping for a cool live version but alas, nothing to be found ![]() |
