LITTLE RIVER BAND "sleeper catcher" 1978, vinyl....#4 AU, #16 US

this was one of the first albums i bought using pocketmoney aged 11ish, guess i knew what good music was at that age eh?
these guys from Downunder always sound like The Eagles to me nowadays, very similar harmonies and melodies IMO, they had a string of hits throughout the last half of the 70s and into the early 80s both here and in the US and along with Air Supply basically paved the way for US success for other Aussie bands overseas like AC/DC,Men At Work, Midnight Oil and INXS to name a few, lead vocalist Glenn Shorrock left the band a couple of years after this one and it all started to fall apart, he is still performing here in Oz and has appeared in quite a few stage musicals over the last couple of decades

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Not putting links on this one. 36 tracks, nuff said.
Bought this recently as I had no Paul Simon on cd. With 36 tracks here at a single album price, it seemed like a good deal. Not a huge Simon fan, but S&G, yes. I remember the split. I was heartbroken. Hadn't been that crushed since Sonny & Cher called it a day. Followed Paul for quite awhile, but it was never the same. Same with Art. What a duo. Alway thought Art had the better voice. Of course he couldn't write. They needed each other. This album is avery nice compilation of Paul's work. Contains all the hits. Albums pulled from cover all up through that time (albums). I have the first 6 on vinyl, before I abandoned him. Hearing the second disc of this set, I don't think I missed much. Not much on that one that I cared much for after the Graceland stuff. First disc is very good. Favorite choice would be Kodochrome. Have to go way back for that one. I see Paul had a new album just this year and he's still chartin' high. Haven't heard anything from it. Glad to have this one in my collection.

THE BEATLES "abbey road" 1969, vinyl,cd. #1 everywhere

had to pull this one out to get Geri Halliwell out of my head...otherwise i might have nightmares tonight!

what can i add to this that aint been said over the last 42yrs?

its simple...its The Beatles, its pop/rock perfection by three talented Scousers...oh yeh and that guy that plays drums, sings silly childrens songs and is more famous for being Thomas the Tank engine!

the final album by the Fab Four but released prior to Let It Be.
two of Harrison's finest songs are on this one (something & here comes the sun), Lennon was sued by Chuck berry but settled out of court with Lennon agreeing to record some of his songs, which appeared on his 'rock and roll' album in 1975, for ripping off "you cant do that".
Macca's "oh!,darling" set the template for some of his best tracks with Wings.
elsewhere Lennon blues's it up on "shes so heavy", Macca chips in with the whimsical "maxwells silver hammer" and "her majesty".
side 1 is a set of normal songs, side two is Macca's creation of splicing numerous snippets of unfinished songs together to create one huge soundscape.
...then theres the cover itself which caused much debate and speculation, Macca walking barefoot and out of step with the other Beatles, and that VW Beetle with the licence plate which reads "28 IF"....all hints to the fact Paul died in a car crash back in 65/66ish.
forget Sgt.Peppers,Revolver,Rubber Soul,white Album.....this is their masterpiece!

i cant be bothered posting links....im too tired for that, and everyone knows these songs anyway!

tracks:

1. come together***
2. something***
3. maxwell's silver hammer**
4. oh! darlin'***
5. octopus' garden**
6. i want you (she's so heavy)**
7. here comes the sun***
8. because***
9. you never give me your money***
10.sun king***
11.mean mr.mustard***
12.polythene pam***
13.she came in through the bathroom window***
14.golden slumbers***
15.carry that weight***
16.the end**
17.her majesty**

My first purchase made as a result of a recommendation of MD's very own SteveO, and it's a blinder...

This is a 1976 side project for Phil Manzanera & Brian Eno from Roxy Music. The band only played three gigs: a warm-up in Norwich, The Reading Festival, and the one recorded here from the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London.

The music is a sort of Prog-Metal-Art-Rock mix, that is highly effective & brilliantly played. It's in the vicinity of Genesis in TLLDOB mode, or Zappa, or the Jazziness of Red-era King Crimson. Fans of Dream Theater, or Porcupine Tree will find something to enjoy here.

Great album. Thanks Steve (& Jerome who seconded the recommendation).

AllMusic 4+/5 stars.

Fourth solo album from Van the Man. A bit of a changeup from his previous. A lot more use of horns here, with Van's r&b roots taking the forefront. Surprised to read he did not care much for this album, rating it among his weakest. The album fared better in the U.K. where it reached #18, and a #32 showing in the states. Single of Domino remains his highest charting at #9. Two other singles of Blue Money and Call Me Up In Dreamland performed poorly. Love four tracks here of which the very simple acoustic I'll Be Your Lover, Too being my top. Gypsy Queen is the only track that did nothing for me. The album title was given by the record company without Van's knowledge. He thought it would be titled Virgo's Fool. That's probably why he doesn't like it. Good enough for me.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Gypsy Queen

Best Track - I'll Be Your Lover, Too

I'll be your man
I'll understand
Do my best to take good care a you
Yes I will

You'll be my queen
I'll be your king
And I'll be your lover, too
Yes, I will

Derry down green
Color of my dream
A dream that's daily coming true

I'll tell ya
When day is through
I will come to you
And tell you of your many charms

And you'll look at me
With eyes that see
And melt into each other's arms

And so I come
To be the one
Who's always standing next to you

Umm, reach out for me
So I can be alright
The one who's always reaching out for you
Yes I will, yes I will

You'll be my queen
I'll be your king

just got around to hearing a few of these Van "the man" tracks MH....theyre not too bad considering its the first time ive heard most of them....
i only have "moondance" album and a compilation VM album, and i really should invest in some more of his earlier works...but as you know i need my money for other things right now!!!
