CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:THE KINKS "you really got me" B/W "its all right" 1964

well there you go....
i always thought my dad couldnt stand The Kinks, but i guess he must have liked this one...
not their debut single as most believe, but in fact their fourth single...the previous three didnt chart anywhere...
"A" side...iconic 1960s rock track with one of the most recognizable riffs off all time, i love it
"B" side, now i am a Kinks fan but this one is crap, i guess they still had some fine tuning of their style to go...
single reached #1 on the UK charts
here's their Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kinks

There are 2 groups that when linked to, I reach for the cans immediately: The Zombies and the Kinks. I understand you are working your way through a list but: Thanks. Bro C-H!

thanks for your constant comments Jazzy...i appreciate the thoughts of others.

as a footnote...
i have no idea what i am about to play until the day i post them so the singles are always a surprise to me...mostly pleasant, sometimes not,LOL!
so what happens is, i randomly pick out the singles, look at the ones i have selected and play them in the order i choose to.

i usually pick out anywhere between three and five a day...
but im saving all the 78s until, im assuming quite a few of them could be pre-rock and roll.

here's the Wiki for it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odessey_and_Oracle

i do not own any Kinks studio albums, only two compilations on vinyl, a double cd compilation and seven or eight of their single releases

CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:SANDIE SHAW "puppet on a string" B/W "tell the boys" 1967

probably the finest UK female singer of her era...
"A" side, absolute classic IMO, i love it...
"B" side is just as good
single made it to #1 on the UK charts

Nobody should dare dismiss Ms. Shaw as just another pop tart--gleaned from the Wiki are these: 1) She's a psychotherapist who, with her husband, devised a distinct method for trative the creative; 2) designed her own clothing, having a line and company; 3) she has written children's books; 4) has led international campaigns to right wrongs; 5) was the first big artist to cover Led Zeppelin *; 6) has been a TV host and occasional actress; 7) successfully sued the English music giant, PYE Records, to get control of her catalog
A brilliant cover from 2 very different eras:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCbR7Nr0cJg << richer, deeper, more meaningful...but still barefoot

* Reviewing the Situation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4-i1jYivrA << A Stones song http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reviewing_the_Situation

BTW, she hated that song "Puppet on a String" (called it sexist drivel) and the oom-pah style of it, and re-recorded it much later as "Puppet's Got a Brand New String". Can't find an example.

Excellent post Jazz...

Those female singers(if you call most of them singers) aren't in the same league as Sandie,
which reminds me to put a compilation on my 'to buy' list.

CONNIE FRANCIS "sings rock and roll million sellers-ep" 1959

a four track covers 'ep' from Connie this time round....
im not sure if this charted in the UK or not because Wiki have a list of her UK "ep" releases but htis is not on that list,
neither are the individual tracks in her UK singles releases...strange indeed!
anyway, four tracks...all are very good, as is most of Connie's material IMO
here's Connie's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connie_Francis

TECHNOTRONIC "get up" B/W "get up(instrumental)" 1990

WTF!
i could not imagine my dad buying this one so ive got a feeling it may have been one of my sister's
singles that somehow ended up in his pile of vinyl singles????
so, back to to Technotronic...i did sort of like their "pump up the jam" single back in the day, but i dont
like this one...
single peaked at #7 in Australia

THE ZOMBIES "shes not there" B/W "you make me feel good" 1964

well bugger me....
Jazzy mentions these guys just a couple of days ago and out they come in the random selection process!
"A" side...anyone who doesnt love this one,well...theyre a couple of brain cells short!
the "A" side sums up the mid 1960s IMO.
"B" side is very good also, but not quite up there with the A" side
single made it to #1 in the UK

I've always liked this tune, both theme and the rhythm change. Great sax too. Look at Mr. Unterberger's AMG bio link at the bottom of the Wiki for more on him and some links.
