Mahler's Symphony No 6

Absolutely stunning in every way, rivals even Shostakovich's Fifth Stymphony in terms of sheer force and emotion

DMITRI SHOSTAKOVICH - String Quartet No.15 (composed 1974)

One of the greatest modern composers of the 20th century, Shostakovich was influenced by Prokofiev, Stravinsky and Mahler.

This composition is a brilliant escapade displaying the genius of this Russian composer. The work is stark yet melodic and beautiful, punctuated by loud classical power chords and minimalist tonal soundscapes. Shostakovich died in 1975 so this composition is one of his last.

Shostakovich age 36

The Fifteenth Quartet has six movements:
1. Elegy – Adagio, attacca
2. Serenade – Adagio , attacca
3. Intermezzo – Adagio, attacca
4. Nocturne – Adagio, attacca
5. Funeral March – Adagio molto, attacca
6. Epilogue

The recording I have was performed by the Fitzwilliam String Quartet and released on Decca Records in 1976.

Intimate Rituals-Horatiu Radulescu

One thing I like to look for whenever I listen to a piece of music, classical especially, is that I get the sense that the people making the music really feel for it. "Intimate Rituals" is a piece that just oozes creative passion and emotion, quite possibly one of the greatest works of music I've ever heard. The type of album where you can really get what you put into it

I love Vivaldi!!!! I listened to 'Nulla in mundo pax' sung by Elin manahan Thomas, and I must say I fell in love with it! I ended up doing it a few days ago as my leavers recital! This is my version of it, but you must listen to Elin's version - the clarity and beauty is overwhelming. Smile x
