my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 16-09-2013
KISS "talk to me" b/w "naked city" 1980
pretty sure this was the only "A" side that Ace Frehley sang lead vocals on, but i could be wrong???
one of the best songs he ever wrote and sung IMO....
"b" side...its okay i guess, its a Simmons song...
single reached #39 on our charts, probably deserved better but it did spend around five months on the chart

THE WHO "ready,steady who!"-ep. 1966
a five track 'ep' with songs they played on their 'ready steady who' tv show in the UK in the mid sixties...
nothing brilliant on here, but there is a 'beach boy-esque' 'bucket-t' and a cover of their 'barbara-ann' song..
also, their version of 'batman-theme'...look its not that bad, the boys were letting their hair down and having a bit of fun i guess..
also, two Townshend tracks on here, 'disguises' and 'circles'...theyre okay, nothing special, but it is The Who...
single/ep failed to chart here but did get to #2 on the UK 'ep' charts...

PAUL McCARTNEY & THE FROG CHORUS "we all stand together" b/w "we all stand together(humming version" 1984
yeh...'the frog chorus' says it all!
seriously, its not that bad, it was recorded and aimed at an audience of children...the song came from a movie length cartoon Macca made about Rupert The Bear, a childhood story book from Macca's generation...
"B" side is a piece of crap, but its allround childish fun and kids love it...single got to #2 in the UK at christmas, out here it failed to chart...

PAUL McCARTNEY "spies like us" b/w "my carnival" 1985
two Macca's in a row...
"a" side was theme song to the movie of the same name starring Chevy Chase/Dan Akroyd, movie was sort of a spoof of the Bond thing...
i love it, its one of those 'lost macca classics" IMO..."b" side is credited to Macca and Wings, its an old song from the mid 1970s apparently, its not bad neither, all up, not a bad single...
i also have the 12" remix version of this single somewhere, the 6 minute remix of the "a' side is also very good...
single made it to a lowly #55 here...

U2 "desire" b/w "hallelujah,here she comes" 1988
"a" side comes from what i consider their best album..."rattle and hum"..
love the track and love the acoustic gospel tinged "b' side also...
genuinely great material from a band whom i own probably eight or nine albums of, yet dont like any of them except this one....!
single got to #1 here

DOUBLE "gliding" b/w "lakes in the desert" 1987
who the...!
couldnt recall this one whatsoever when i played it,let alone who the artist is???
thanks to wiki who tell me the name is pronounced do-bley and they were from Belgium...apparnetly had a couplt of albums back in the day...
this is boring euro crap...no melody, tune, intelligence etc etc...God only knows why i even bought this, guess it got a lot of airplay and it hooked me somehow, but it didnt chart if it did get the airplay, which would be unusual for back then...dislike the "b" side even more than the "a" side!...is it possible to give zero *'s for a track?

ELVIS PRESLEY "are you lonesome tonight(breakup version)" b/w "(let me be your)teddy bear" 1981
...'breakup version'????,its a live version of his old 1960 hit recorded live in 1969, during the song The King changes the lines to "do you gaze at your bald head, and wish you had hair"...for the rest of the song he is in hysterics at the continured perfect 'on'pitch' vocals of the female back up singer who didnt flinch or lose a note when he sung that line...it is genuinely funny stuff, and his laughing actually gets me laughing...its so infectious...
"b" side is simply the old 1957 hit 'teddy bear'...
i was surprised to find the single actually charted, it peaked at #72 here...
you guys should listen to this version of the song, you'll either love or hate it, my guess is you will love it!

NICK LOWE "cruel to be kind" b/w "grey ribbon county" 1979
gotta feel sorry for ole-Nick Lowe, he has written and recorded some brilliant songs but never really got the sales he deserved...
ive always thought of him and his style to be very similar to that of Elvis Costello...
loving the "a" side and the "B" side country sounding track really isnt that far off being a love trak for me!
single made it to #12 here, his biggest seller in these parts of the world!

THE ROLLING STONES "harlem shuffle" b/w "had it with you" 1986
really like this old r+b/soul cover by these guys, they actually do it quite well...
"b" side had more of a real stones sound to it and i like that one also...
single peaked at #6 here and justifiably so!
