#461 - Ramones - Sheena Is A Punk Rocker - 1977

running recap for me - 3's=22, 2's=13, 1's=5
this one - **
from the album: Rocket To Russia
Written by Joey Ramone
Produced by Tony Bongiovi, Tommy Ramone
Chart action: #81 US, #22 UK

the players:
Joey Ramone – lead vocals
Johnny Ramone – guitar
Dee Dee Ramone – bass, backing vocals
Tommy Ramone – drums

Love the Ramones but this one one is just so lyrically weak it barely gets a like from me. Just read the
lyrics. From their third album and later pressings of their second album. Used in Stephen Kings Pet
Cemetary film for which the group also did the theme song. Sheena is one of the groups best known songs
but they had many that were better.

Well New York City really has is all oh yeah, oh yeah

Sheena is a punk rocker
Sheena is a punk rocker
Sheena is a punk rocker now

Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 18-11-2012

love The Ramones and I like this track !

Looking Back At Some Classics - TraceNspace - 18-11-2012

OH WOW! I don't know if I've professed my love of the Ramones here before but I will now! They are one of the great American bands, taking a little from the 50's and 60's and playing loud and fast and I love every minute of it. You can say 'but every song sounds the same...' I do not care and if you ever stood in a dirty little club and saw them play maybe you wouldn't either. I know nobody knocked them but I've had to defend them a time or two before Smile

#460 - George Harrison - My Sweet Lord - 1970

running recap for me - 3's=22, 2's=14, 1's=5
this one - **
from the album: All Things Must Pass
Written by George Harrison
Produced by George Harrison, Phil Spector
Chart action: #1 US, #1 UK, #1 Australia

the players:
George Harrison – vocals, acoustic guitar, slide guitars, backing vocals
Eric Clapton – acoustic guitar
Billy Preston – piano
Gary Wright – electric piano
Pete Ham – acoustic guitar
Tom Evans – acoustic guitar
Joey Molland – acoustic guitar
Klaus Voormann – bass
Ringo Starr – drums, percussion
Jim Gordon – drums, percussion
Mike Gibbins – tambourine
John Barham – harmonium

Wish I could say I love this one. Not gonna happen. Once again, it's the lyrics. I have to have some. We
all know about the lawsuit, blah-blah-blah. Sounded more like Oh Happy Day than He's So Fine to me. And to
have to pay your ex-manager was the low blow. Didn't know this was first recorded by Billy Preston. The
first hit by an ex-Beatle. Take that John and Paul. George was all in for his Hare Krishna period and let
it be known here. Written while he was on tour with Delaney & Bonnie. Check out the cast on the recording.
Didn't know there were that many instruments on there.

#459 - Guns 'N' Roses - Paradise City - 1987

running recap for me - 3's=22, 2's=15, 1's=5
this one - **
from the album: Appetite For Destruction
Written by Guns 'N' Roses
Produced by Mike Clink
Chart action: #5 US

the players:
Axl Rose – lead vocals, synthesizer, whistle
Izzy Stradlin – rhythm guitar, backing vocals, percussion
Slash – lead guitar
Duff McKagan – bass, backing vocals
Steven Adler – drums

Second song to make the list from the debut Appetite For Destruction album, after Welcome To The Jungle.
Like this one about the same. I really think it's too long. Written by the group in the van on the way
back from a gig. Slash's favorite GnR song, probably because of his awesome guitar solo. Axel has cited
Hanoi Rocks as an influence for the band and guitarist Andy McCoy of that band says the guitar riff for
this song is a rip off of their song Lost In The City.

Lyrics

Take me down
To the paradise city
Where the grass is green
And the girls are pretty
Take me home

Take me down
To the paradise city
Where the grass is green
And the girls are pretty
Take me home

Just a' urchin
livin' under the street
I'm a hard case
that's tough to beat
I'm your charity case
So buy me somethin' to eat
I'll pay you at another time
Take it to the end of the line

Ragz to richez or so they say
Ya gotta-keep pushin'
for the fortune and fame
It's all a gamble
When it's just a game
Ya treat it like a capital crime
Everybody's doin' their time

Take me down
To the paradise city
Where the grass is green
And the girls are pretty
Take me home

Strapped in the chair
of the city's gas chamber
Why I'm here I can't quite remember
The surgeon general says
it's hazardous to breathe
I'd have another cigarette
but I can't see
Tell me who you're gonna believe

Take me down
To the paradise city
Where the grass is green
And the girls are pretty
Take me home

So far away
So far away
So far away
So far away

Captain America's been torn apart
Now he's a court jester
with a broken heart
He said-
Turn me around and
take me back to the start
I must be losin' my mind-
"Are you blind?"
I've seen it all a million times

Take me down
To the paradise city
Where the grass is green
And the girls are pretty
Take me home

Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 19-11-2012

very good song from a classic album!!!!!!

Looking Back At Some Classics - Mrrusty1 - 19-11-2012

coldplay a very good band
Music Head Wrote:#490 - Coldplay - Clocks - 2002

running recap for me - 3's=6, 2's=4, 1's=1
this one - ***
from the album: A Rush Of Blood To The Head
Written by Coldplay
Produced by Ken Nelson, Mark Phythian
Chart action: #29 Billboard Hot 100, #9 UK Singles, #28 Canada, #7 Australia

the players:
Chris Martin – vocals, guitar, keyboards
Jon Buckland – guitar
Guy Berryman – bass
Will Champion – drums

Not a chart topper but it did spend 22 weeks bouncing around. From the groups second album, it got them a Grammy.
Released as the second single here, but the fourth in the UK. Chris Martin says the song was inspired by Muse.
Nearly left off the album as they considered it a wrap after 10 songs. The band was already touring before the album
was even released, when Chris relented, going back in the studio for this final track. The song addresses the
helplessness of being in a dysfunctional relationship. Cryptic as usual but that's what the pros say. Has been used
in numerous commercials, films and tv shows, ER being the most notable to me.

Lyrics

Lights go out and I can't be saved
Tides that I tried to swim against
You've put me down upon my knees
Oh I beg, I beg and plead (singing)
Come out of things unsaid, shoot an apple off my head (and a)
Trouble that can't be named, tigers waiting to be tamed (singing)
You are, you are

Confusion never stops, closing walls and ticking clocks (gonna)
Come back and take you home, I could not stop, that you now know (singing)
Come out upon my seas, curse missed opportunities (am I)
A part of the cure, or am I part of the disease (singing)

You are [x6]
And nothing else compares
Oh no nothing else compares
And nothing else compares

You are [continues in background]
Home, home, where I wanted to go [x4]
