I also thought of these Billy Bragg lyrics, especially the ones in bold text at the end!

Help save the youth of america
Help save them from themselves
Help save the sun-tanned surfer boys
And the californian girls

When the lights go out in the rest of the world
What do our cousins say
They're playing in the sun and having fun, fun, fun
Till daddy takes the gun away

From the big church to the big river
And out to the shining sea
This is the land of opportunity
And there's a monkey trial on tv

A nation with their freezers full
Are dancing in their seats
While outside another nation
Is sleeping in the streets

Don't tell me the old, old story
Tell me the truth this time
Is the man in the mask or the indian
An enemy or a friend of mine

Help save the youth of america
Help save the youth of the world
Help save the boys in uniform
Their mothers and their faithful girls

Listen to the voice of the soldier
Down in the killing zone
Talking about the cost of living
And the price of bringing him home

They're already shipping the body bags
Down by the rio grande
But you can fight for democracy at home
And not in some foreign land

And the fate of the great united states
Is entwined in the fate of us all
And the incident at tschernobyl proves
The world we live in is very small

And the cities of europe have burned before
And they may yet burn again
And if they do I hope you understand
That washington will burn with them
Omaha will burn with them
Los alamos will burn with them

Whenever the subject of America comes up I think of these lyrics

She came from Providence, the one in Rhode Island
Where the old world shadows hang heavy in the air
She packed her hopes and dreams like a refugee,
Just as her father came across the sea

She heard about a place people were smilin',
They spoke about the red man's way, how they loved the land
And they came from everywhere to the Great Divide
Seeking a place to stand or a place to hide

Down in the crowded bars out for a good time,
Can't wait to tell you all what it's like up there
And they called it paradise, I don't know why
Somebody laid the mountains low while the town got high

Then the chilly winds blew down across the desert,
Through the canyons of the coast to the Malibu
Where the pretty people play hungry for power
To light their neon way and give them things to do

Some rich man came and raped the land, nobody caught 'em,
Put up a bunch of ugly boxes and, Jesus, people bought 'em
And they called it paradise, the place to be,
They watched the hazy sun sinking in the sea

You can leave it all behind and sail to Lahaina
Just like the missionaries did so many years ago
They even brought a neon sign 'Jesus is Coming',
Brought the white man's burden down, brought the white man's reign

Who will provide the grand design, what is yours and what is mine?
'Cause there is no more new frontier, we have got to make it here
We satisfy our endless needs and justify our bloody deeds
In the name of destiny and in the name of God

And you can see them there on Sunday morning
Stand up and sing about what it's like up there
They called it paradise, I don't know why
You call some place paradise, kiss it goodbye

Well it's a serious wake-up call for those in the know, the statisticians, the old school power block and the political experts. A guy no-one said stood a chance, with a limited budget (compared to Hillary) and a tiny campaign crew (again compared to Hillary) showed the world that he could turn the tables on the establishment. Clinton went after the well-heeled, celebrities & old school politicians to prop up her position - the easy votes. Trump went after the disenfranchised and the marginalised. The ones who have seen their jobs disappear, the veterans who have been ignored for decades & the ordinary Joe Soaps who cannot manage their bills anymore - the difficult votes. Maybe he's not as dumb as we think????? He's going to have an uphill battle from here on in though. The old establishment are not going to take kindly to being proven wrong. The result is a complete shock to everyone, me included. Go figure...........

WOW sums it up for me
on the bright side
it is fun to watch the media freaking out
and we might get to see a lot of celebs leave the country (promises promises)
stand by for 4 years of entertainment
and a lot of payback

Politics - Jerome - 09-11-2016

And the Pubs have the House of Representatives & the Senate as well. And yes MH, it IS fun to watch the media freak out. They are so far up their own backsides they can't see what's in front of them. Yes, let's see who is going to leave the country now. My guess - zero! My gut feeling on this whole thing is that the electorate simply just do not trust or like HRC. I mean really, a husband AND his wife both become president of the same country. ??!!??

Politics - Music Head - 09-11-2016

so funny

woke up
got out of bed
dragged a comb across my head
etc.

turn on MSNBC
all gloomy faces
Chris Matthews stressing
Rachel Maddow almost in tears

turn over to FOX
everyone all smiles

no bias though

Have to say although I am not a Trump supporter I am glad HRC is not in power. She represents everything that is wrong with America. Just a personal opinion. I simply do not trust her or her cronies. They are just too full of themselves and it's all about power as opposed to policy.
