ERIC CLAPTON "complete clapton" 2007, cd. #2 uk #14 us #43 au

disc 2.

I LIKE THIS DISC

the second disc of a twin set of EC best known songs, this one encapsulates the the mid 1980's to the 00's,
not as good as the first disc but how many artists are at the top of their game in their fourth and fifth decades in the music business, still there are a lot of good to great songs here...off the heroin and the booze and more mellow in comparrison the other disc, strangely enough EC collected sixteen of his seventeen Grammy's after 1990, why is it that these 'old guys' didnt get Grammy's in the '70s, Neil Young, Dylan, McCartney to name a few????
i love the acoustic "layla" on this one, sort of the first EC track that made my ears prick up, along with the VHS "unlugged video.
also i have known people my age that have lost children to accidents...drownings and SIDS, and they have told me that "tears in heaven" sums up in words and music exactly what they have and continually feel about the loss of a child, so i guess EC,after the loss of his son in a terrible accident really let his emotion flow through his music and i can feel the pain of loss to an extent, but thankfully i will never feel that pain fully.
track 14 is a duet with B.B King, track 17 is with J.JCale, thought these would have made the like mark but they dont sadly.
still, this is a great set of songs to trace the career of EC,thus making it easy do decide which part you can pursue further, for me, it is the mid 1970s.

THE WHO "face dances" 1981,vinyl. #2 UK, #4 US, #16 AU.

"i hope i die before i get old" was the cry of Townshend and Co in 1964....well fast foreward seventeen years only one band member had died...the great Keith Moon...and the rest of the band were approaching middle age...fast foreward to 2011 and Townshend/Daltry are still touring in their 60's???? what happened to "my generation", i s'pose they are still paying money to see them in concert???

this isnt a bad album by anyone's standards for an early eighties rock album, it is however not a great Who album. the Who have mellowed a bit on this one compared to their earlier material but there are still some great tunes on this one, namely "you better you bet" which is old school "who" through and through, likewise "another tricky day", both of which could have fitted neatly on any of their 1970's albums, the rest of the tracks bar Jon Entwhistles "the quiet one" are not bad songs either.
i just feel that without Keith Moon the Who lost some of their intensity and urgency in their recordings, thats not to say that Kenny Jones is a bad drummer, he's not, he's just an orthodox drummer true to the art.

What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 01-05-2011

Fleetwood Mac singer's solo debut offering from 1981.

With SN's voice being so associated with the Fleetwood Mac sound of the time, it's inevitable that this sounds much like her work with the band.

Solid AOR songs with typically strong vocal performances from Nicks. Fairly lightweight, but still a good listen.

AllMusic 4+/5 stars.

There are two versions of this album. This is the single disc version.

Her first live release from 1995.

BR brings a welcome feminine touch to this selection of Bluesy AOR. Her voice is gorgeous throughout, as is her slide playing. She's never recorded a huge number of her own songs, and these are all covers, but the playing is excellent. Guest appearances by Bruce Hornsby & Bryan Adams amongst others.

Good live album.

Another listen for this recent release from ex-Enid guitarist's new band.

Part medieval Folk (with Lutes & stuff), part pseudo-orchestral pomp, and part good ol' Progressive Rock.

What lyrics there are talk of Albion, & Avalon and the like.

Very pleasant.

2007 album from Macca.

This can currently be bought new for £1.27 (Including shipping) on the Amazon Marketplace. How does that happen ??

I splashed out on the deluxe version which includes 3 bonus tracks, plus a twenty minute audio of PM discussing the writing & recording of the songs. Regarding the song vintage clothes, he explains that it's OK to wear the aforementioned clothes, but that it's not good to get stuck in the past. This is odd, because the bulk of these songs are reflective (the title itself references memories & the past), and focus on his early life.

Never mind that, because as Crazyman suggested, these are a very strong set of songs.

Lots to like here...

AllMusic 4+/5 stars.

AMEN CORNER "the world of amen corner" 1969, vinyl....from my mum's collection.

borrowed this one last weekend, just got round to play it now, i used to like this when i was a child....another of the "Mod" material i used to listen to, so my mum's probably responsible for my love of Paul Weller and all things Mod....and yes, i used to ride a Lambretta with mirrors,a foxtail on the back arial, ray bans, fichtail parka, ben sherman shirts, loafers etc....those were the good old days, now i just use this music to remember those days of wasted youth(girls, dope, drink and partying)!
as i said, i used to like this, i should have left it alone in hindsight now im older and wiser about music,
there are several good ones on this, but most of it is crap with crappy cover versions of Impressions,Bunny Sigler,Miracles and an Elvis cover version.
Amen Corner were a bit R&B, bit psychadelic, bit bubblegum pop in places....its really not my cup of tea now, hasnt stood the test of time at all IMO, even the big UK hit "bend me shape me" doesnt seem as good as it once did, although "high in the sky" still sounds pretty cool.
that said it did bring back a few pleasant memories of bongs, vodka and Wendy...oh how good she was!...but she's another story for another day!
