What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 03-08-2011 ![]() i-Pod listening in the garden this PM. Second listen for this, released earlier in 2011. Continues their expedition deeper into the musical left-field. By now, the band have virtually dispensed with melody - save for Thom Yorke's vocal melodies - choosing to concentrate more on rhythm & texture. This makes their music more of a grappling experience, but I still think the rewards are there to be had with some persistence. AllMusic 3+/5 stars. What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 03-08-2011 ![]() i-Pod listening in the garden this PM. Her sixth album, released in 2004. Sparse arrangements give lots of space for Polly's voice, and the intimate atmosphere suits her dissections of the darker side of human emotion. I wouldn't like all her albums to sound like this, but it certainly works to excellent effect in this instance. Great album. AllMusic 4/5 stars. What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 03-08-2011 ![]() On the laptop. Johnny's solo debut, from 1978. Strong set of songs, rangeing through Garage, Punk, and backwards to Stonesy R&R. Another of Rock's casualties, at least he's left some good music to the world. Definite Buy Lister. AllMusic 4+/5 stars. What Are You Listening To? - mtthwibrahim - 04-08-2011 The Mollusk by Ween Everyone should love this album What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 04-08-2011 ![]() My own copy on shiny silver disc. Fine album of Psych-Folk and Alt-Rock, from 1998. Laptop listening certainly doesn't do this album justice. Strongly flavoured music, with a confidence about it that makes for a winning combination. Comes across as a tougher sounding Sufjan Stevens, which is no bad thing... AllMusic 5/5 stars. What Are You Listening To? - mtthwibrahim - 04-08-2011 Zen Arcade-Husker Du one of the ultimate masterpieces of rock What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 04-08-2011 Great to see some " lesser known " but fantastic records posted by Tiggi and Ibrahim !!!! What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 04-08-2011 What Are You Listening To? - mtthwibrahim - 05-08-2011 The Fall-Hex Enducation Hour Pretty good post punk, can't stack up to This Nation's Saving Grace though What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 06-08-2011 ![]() On the laptop. Both Crazy-Horse, & Music Head have had a crack at this, and I think it's fair to say that both were a bit underwhelmed, although Crazyman thought it would be a grower. First impressions suggest I'd agree with the above, and this'll make the Buy List, although it probably isn't their strongest album. AllMusic 4/5 stars. |
