RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 16-05-2018 GEORGE MICHAEL "older" cd, 1996: George's third solo set of just five!... I own all of Wham's material(all on vinyl except a compilation on cd) and three of his solo albums.... as much as I prefer "faith" as my go to GM album, this is his penultimate work of genius in terms of lyrics, music, production and overall sound IMO.... a good mix of pop, dance (kept to a minimum) and mature easy listening tunes... five singles off this one in the UK, all five made the top3 in his homeland with two of those being number ones both there and in Australia, its those two number ones that stand out for ma and show the two sides of his music... a classy album that sold eight million copies worldwide, probably deserved more but who wouldn't take eight million if offered it...LOL the classy pop/dance of this, my favourite off the album: and the brilliant contrast of this stroke of genius! RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 19-05-2018 ELTON JOHN "reg strikes back" vinyl, 1988: Reggie's twenty-first studio album.... back on track with this one after an inconsistent 1980s decade.... Bernie Taupin is back in the fold here.... some horrible 1980s synth drums but I can forgive that.... a pretty good, solid album from Elton, he refers to this as his "comeback album", not that he ever went anywhere, but I tend to agree to a degree.... I love half the album, only disliking one track ("goodbye marlon brando") and liking the remainder... two favourite tracks weren't released as singles though... my favourite: and my second favourite: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 21-05-2018 LEO SAYER "leo sayer" vinyl, 1978: one of the most underrated singer/songwriters of the last forty years IMO... he could sing like Daltrey or be a balladeer, and do it perfectly, in fact, I have on occasion mixed him and Daltrey up!... anyway, for a singer/songwriter he sure let a lot of other writers write songs on this one for him, including Jackson Browne, James Brown, Ray Parker Jnr and Andy Fairweather-Lowe to name a few... seems he was respected enough to have the likes of Townshend, Jackson Browne, Lindsay Buckingham, Andy Fairweather-Lowe amongst others play on this one also... a good solid collection of ballads, pop/disco and soft rock on here to keep everyone satisfied... not my favourite of his but still a good album one of my favourite Sayer tracks of all time appears on this album and here it is: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-05-2018 ![]() AL MARTINO "living a lie" , vinyl, 1964: my Dad's favourite crooner... I'm pretty sure he gave me this album from his collection because I didn't buy it.... yeah, in his own right he is pretty darn good, but no one beats Dean Martin IMO... really like his version of "are you lonesome tonight?" on this one... a good album and a nice change of pace from what I have been playing lately! RE: What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 25-05-2018 ^^ my mom's favorite crooner and I love Spanish Eyes RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-05-2018 i love his version of Spanish Eyes also, shame it wasn't on the album RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-06-2018 ![]() FRANKIE LAINE "greatest hits" vinyl, 1955. one of the old vinyls my dad gave me a while ago... songs focus on the period 49-55... a pretty good album but I prefer his 1960s material... the album does contain one of my favourite tunes by him though... RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-06-2018 NEIL DIAMOND "serenade" vinyl 1974: Neil's nineth studio set, tenth of you count the Johnathon Livingston Seagull OST.... hey, anything prior to 1980 is worthy of being called "classic" from this guy.... superb writer, cool singer. great album... its pretty hard to not go past "Longfellow serenade" from the album but on this occasion I choose this great one: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 10-06-2018 HARRY NILSSON "aerial ballet" cd, 1968: Harry's third.... contains his signature tune: Everybody's Talkin'.... problem is, that song doesn't go with the rest of the songs IMO... the others have a distinct Beatles feel... not that it matters because I love the album, my favourite of his by a country mile! this one could have fitted well on the Sgt Pepper album IMO: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-06-2018 IMELDA MAY "life, love, flesh, blood" cd, 2017: Irish vocalist... given her initial big break on Jools Holland's show.... fifth album.... second I own, her third, Mayhem, is the other one... that one has a rockabilly/1950s rock/r+b sound.... this one is a change of direction, its jazzy and bluesy... more mature than the other one... a great album and one of my favourites from last year... well worth a listen if you like the genre! love her crystal clear vocals: the first single "call me" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY5u496Y6kA (video) the second single "black tears" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILjkdZloLUM (live on Later With...Jools) the third single, and my favourite off the album (not as jazzy as the rest of the album) |
