RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 13-03-2020 ![]() RODRIGUEZ "cold fact" cd, 1970. folkie from Detroit. well, I guess youd call him a folkie. debut album of two. song themes deliver a harsh brutal message of lives in the 'burbs whilst being set amongst beautiful melodies and tunes. as a wordsmith of such things he is up there with Mr Dylan. never charted in his homeland whatsoever, yet Australia and South Africa welcomed him and his music with open arms. probably the greatest nobody with talent who should have been a somebody. seems to be getting some sort of recognition at last with the doco release of "searching for sugarman" a few years ago. BTW, has anybody seen the doco? I havent I LOVE THIS ALBUM could have picked anything off this album to post but this one always mesmerises me: MH, get your copy out and give it a whirl. it will blow the crap out of your ears from all that rap-crap. RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 16-03-2020 ![]() WILLIE NELSON "for the good times: a tribute to Ray Price" cd, 2016 his sixty-fifth solo album. reached #5 on the Billboard Country chart. as the title suggests, a covers set of songs that friend Ray Price sang during his long career. Willie was also a member of Ray's backing band back in the early days. twelve tracks, mainly country sounding as opposed to Willie's jazz roots. good solid album as always from Mr Nelson. I LIKE THIS ALBUM favourite: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-03-2020 ![]() BOBBY LONG "a winter tale" cd, 2011 no, not the Serial Killer, a UK folkie fifth album of ten. only one I own. purchased from a discount bin. hearing hints of Dylan and Cohen good solid consistent album. I LIKE THIS ALBUM no decent links, just amateur shot, poor quality audio so im not posting anything, sorry. ![]() PAUL WELLER "true meanings" cd/vinyl 2018 had to revisit this one after on-line comments by fans of PW rate it as their favourite solo set of his. yes, it made the passing grade for me back in 2018 but I wasn't overly impressed with it. upon reassessing it has a certain charm and warmth to it I never heard earlier. liking every track on here now. still not a great Weller album IMO, but still pretty good. I LIKE THIS ALBUM favourite (on this occasion) and a beautiful video to go with it... RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 23-03-2020 ![]() ALAN JACKSON "what I do" cd, 2004 his eleventh. all the hallmarks of a typical Jackson album, lots of acoustic country and one or two modern country tracks. I LOVE THIS ALBUM favourite wasnt even a single: cool live version! RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 27-03-2020 ![]() FLEET FOXES "fleet foxes" cd, 2008 their debut of three I own the first two. lovely harmonies, melodies and crisp clear sound on here. lots of layers of sound to explore yet it sounds spacious at the same time. has Father John Misty's sound all over this one but he didn't write any of the songs here?? absolute masterpiece of an album IMO I LOVE THIS ALBUM single: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 01-04-2020 ![]() ALAN JACKSON "good time" cd, 2008 his fifteenth. album starts off pretty bad. first words mentioned are "good time" with the use of a vocorder, Lordy, oh Lordy! then we get several modern country tracks, not impressed at this stage. Phew!, come the fifth track (and album favourite) he's back where he belongs. real country, bluegrass, a couple of slower tracks, AJ redeems himself. I LIKE THIS ALBUM favourite: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 04-04-2020 ![]() MARK KNOPFLER "tracker" cd, 2015 more folkie than rock. we all know his style. nice to hear something that genuinely classy on every level. loving half the album, really liking the rest. another solid album from Mr.K I LOVE THIS ALBUM I came in three days early To meet my boat It ain't the life of Riley But it's keeping me afloat It's quiet over Christmas If you got no place to go I got my home from river rats The only home I know I found myself a flophouse And I hit the streets at nine Get some grub and drink a beer Maybe go down the line These chips will take your money Shake a young man down It's the same in every one of these Sorry river towns River towns, sorry river towns River towns River towns, sorry river towns River towns Well I picked me up a bottle To take back to the room Then I saw a young girl standing In a doorway in the gloom We'd hardly started talking The old scenario And I just let her work me over Down by the Ohio River towns, sorry river towns River towns River towns, sorry river towns River towns When I asked her if she'd like to stay She was down my stairs so quick I never asked what got her started With the sorry river tricks So I get the bottle open But something's hit a nerve And I'm looking in the mirror At the face that I deserve River towns, sorry river towns River towns River towns, sorry river towns River towns RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 04-04-2020 ^Yes. Similar vibe to Privateering, in terms of the mix. RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-04-2020 I do prefer Privateering though. RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 18-04-2020 ![]() NEIL YOUNG "comes a time" cd, 1978 ninth solo set from Uncle Neil. the older I get the more inclined I am to purpose pick his county/folkie/Americana material over his grungy Crazy Horse material. lovie just about everything on this album and Nicolette Larson's appearance makes it even more special IMO. I LOVE THIS ALBUM. I usually try to avoid the obvious track to post but in this case the obvious one is the best one: |
