What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 24-11-2011 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:ive never really thought of Willie albums as being country anyway...he always seems to incorporate jazzy overtones into his songs...i just think he is "willie", just as dylan is dylan....you are quite correct mate my country image is my own projection I suspect, coming from Red Headed Stranger and the country classics he penned still, I think if you ask any american to classify his music, they will say country, even though that would be inacurate love the man, and the image, just don't care that much for most of his music What Are You Listening To? - TraceNspace - 24-11-2011 I always thought of Willie as country, it would never have occurred to me to put him in a different category.... What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-11-2011 thats the reason i have a problem with the term "genre"....its pretty difficult sometimes to label an artist in a genre, again....take Neil Young, most people think of him as a "folkie"...when in actual fact he has recorded very few folk songs in his career What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 24-11-2011 A very smart chap from Australia once said "There are two genres...good and crap" !!!! ...lol CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:thats the reason i have a problem with the term "genre"....its pretty difficult sometimes to label an artist in a genre, again....take Neil Young, most people think of him as a "folkie"...when in actual fact he has recorded very few folk songs in his career What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 24-11-2011 TraceNspace Wrote:I always thought of Willie as country, it would never have occurred to me to put him in a different category....lol was tempted to put this in jazz didn't know if genre police were on duty chickened out What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 25-11-2011 To be truthful MH, Stardust is jazz ! Music Head Wrote:lol What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-11-2011 saw Willie in concert about a decade ago...was more like a jazz gig than a country one...took me by surprise back then What Are You Listening To? - mtthwibrahim - 25-11-2011 Just pulled out "The Dance of the Moon and the Sun" for the billionth time I'm sorry, but this is my new favorite record. "Black Saint and the Sinner Lady" will still always occupy a special place in my heart, but I can no longer deny the fact that this is pretty much the best damn thing ever made What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 25-11-2011 from my library (vinyl) ![]() Randy's second album, a good effort but not even close to his best. Only well known song would be Mama Told Me Not To Come, a hit for Three Dog Night. I usually prefer originals, but not here. TDN gave it some much needed oomph. Only love track here for me is Old Kentucky Home. Not the traditional song you may know, although he does steal a few lines. Wiki describes the songs on this album as rock 'n roll, R & B, folk, jazz, blues and country. Take that genre police. High praise from the critics followed this release, so I must have missed something. Certainly not the first time. Three songs did nothing for me, giving the album a low like rating. Randy's lyrics probably save it, as most of the music is too stripped down, with piano front and center. Became a big fan of the man, but not with this album. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Let's Burn Down The Cornfield Best Track - Old Kentucky Home Turpentine and dandelion wine I've turned the corner and I'm doin' fine Shootin' at the birds on the telephone line Pickin' em off with this gun of mine I got a fire in my belly And a fire in my head Goin' higher and higher Until I'm dead Sister Sue, she's short and stout She didn't grow up - she grew out Mama says she's plain but she's just bein' kind Papa thinks she's pretty but he's almost blind Don't let her out much 'cept at night But I don't care 'cause I'm all right Oh, the sun shines bright on My Old Kentucky Home And the young folks roll on the floor Oh, the sun shines bright on My Old Kentucky Home Keep them hard times away from my door Brother Gene, he's big and mean And he don't have much to say He had a little woman who he whupped each day But now she's gone away He got drunk last night Kicked mama down the stairs But I'm all right so I don't care 1) Have You Seen My Baby? ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO4PMKrSYT0 2) Let's Burn Down The Cornfield * live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7MdnFt1UrI 3) Mama Told Me Not To Come ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ie_5wlISps 4) Suzanne ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2vrNRwaSD0 5) Lover's Prayer ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVXWt3o4Was 6) Lucinda ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMj6_639wrM 7) Underneath The Harlem Moon ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpcSBTJpyQU 8) Yellow Man ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkXeyNOBNeo 9) Old Kentucky Home *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guW0r8R4DQE 10) Rosemary ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWT1sQKQj9U 11) If You Need Oil * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OshxrSel7uY 12) Uncle Bob's Midnight Blues * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Pv9H0r75XM 3's - 1 2's - 8 1's - 3 Grade - 1.8 so many albums, so little time What Are You Listening To? - Neil Cossar - 25-11-2011 Turin Brakes: Chim Chim Che-ree http://youtu.be/prSskFXsjWw |
