"A" side was actually his biggest seller in the UK, despite "runaway" hitting #1 and this one making #2 over there... i love "runaway", but only like this one... "B" side, thats another story, i love that, its probably favourite of Del's... interestingly enough, UK rocker Shakin' Stevens revived the "B" side on one of his albums in the 1980s, i love his version of it also! here's Del's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Del_Shannon "hey little girl" ** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmCyghiaXQI tv performance "you never talked about me" ** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xqu8gCzur6c tv performance added bonus: the Shakin' Stevens blindingly superb cover of "you never talked about me" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNwwLgr986Y my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-04-2015 BRIAN POOLE & THE TREMELOES "twist and shout" B/W "we know" 1963 the Poole's fifth UK single but first to actually chart... yes, "A" side is a cover(as were most of their UK singles)...sorry but i dont like it, no-one and i mean no-one sings this like Lennon's version with Beatles, thats their song IMO, they own it! "B" side, i dont like that neither...apart from "do you love me" i really cant think of anything else i like by then! single peaked at #4 in the UK here's their Wiki for those who missed it with the "do you love me" post. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tremeloes "twist and shout" * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxs9RJEaq-8 audio link "we know" * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VISOSYB_hBQ audio link my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-04-2015 VAL DOONICAN "walk tall" B/W "only the heartaches" 1964 Irish swing/pop singer from the 1960s... vocals draw comparisons to Perry Como, and probably Bing Crosby... i love both sides of this single this, his debut peaked at #3 in the UK here's Val's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Val_Doonican "walk tall" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdpuvzn0qxY audio link "only the heartache" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0-ClWhI-qY audio link my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-04-2015 moving back to the 1980s now... THE BANGLES "walk like an egyptian" B/W "not like you" 1986 my dad used to love these guys, he has a couple of their albums on vinyl... i was never a big fan, i liked this single and loved "manic monday"(written by Prince)... "A" side is pretty good and representative of the pop scene back then... "B" side, like i said, im not a fan really, i dont like it... single peaked at #1 in Australia here's their Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bangles "walk like an egyptian" ** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK32YwjfCMc video "not like you" ** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urD5FislZ8A audio my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-04-2015 EURYTHMICS "sweet dreams(are made of this)" B/W "i could give you(a mirror)" 1982 i was never a big fan of these guys(well, guy and gal), im not sure why but i wasnt... i love Annie's vocals, just not the songs all that much, except this one which i do love... as for Dave Stewart, i alsways likened his style to that of Jeff Lynne...good writer,producer... i loved Stewarts solo album from a couple of years ago also("the blackbird diaries") single peaked at #6 here in Australia... here's their Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurythmics "sweet dreams(are made of this)" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeMFqkcPYcg vevo video "i could give you(a mirror)* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCEmZpgOVx0 audio here's a link by The Tourists, the group that Annie and Dave were in prior to Eurythmics their big hit was a cover of the Dusty Springfield classic "i only wan to be with you" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0TuR2LD4nk video link my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-04-2015 back to the 1960s again... MOODY BLUES "from the bottom of my heart" B/W "and my baby's gone" 1965 i usually like these guys on the whole, but i cant stand either side of this single... it only reached #22 in the UK "from the bottom of my heart" * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQdLj5v-ZEM audio link "and my baby's gone" * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=096nCsJXqYg audio link here's the MB's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Moody_Blues my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-04-2015 MANFRED MANN "come tomorrow" B/W "what am i doing wrong?" 1965 youre rarely going to find me not like or love a song by these guys, theyre one of my favourites from that period of music... i prefer Paul Jones over Mike D'Abo as a vocalist and thought these guys did their best work during the Jones years... "A" side is my favourite track by these guys... "B" side, another great track by these guys, has a bit of a jazzy feel going on, ive got a feeling Jazzbo will like this one single made it to #1 on the UK singles charts. here's M+M's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manfred_Mann "come together" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBQ_nJGXaB0 tv performance "what am i doing wrong?" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zkp_c4zDM8 audio link my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-04-2015 RUSS CONWAY "the russ conway-ep!" i cannot find info on the release date of this one but the vinyl is certainly a 1960s label... Russ was a pianist who recorded instrumental music in the late 50s and early 60s... he had some 20 charting hits in the UK during that period including two #1 hits that he wrote... theres seven tracks on this 'ep', i dont like any of them... being as i cannot find the release date of this, i also cannot find any chart info on this disc neither but with his popularity its a sure bet that it did chart at some point i have previously posted another of Russ' singles in this thread..."pixilated penguin" here's Russ' Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russ_Conway "happy birthday to you" * (no link available) "im 21 today" * (no link available) "its my mothers birthday today" * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0j5apGIZMYk audio link "auld lang syne" * (no link available) "my old dutch" * (no link available) "anniversary song" * (no link available) |
