I am going to check out Agnetha! Thanks Ruby!
Ruby Wrote:Agnetha Fältskog was born on 05 April 1950. She was already a well-known name in Sweden before ABBA, and had been writing songs and performing since her late teens. She’s released 12 studio albums and 43 singles of her own in addition to the ABBA releases of 8 studio albums and 73 singles (compilations and live albums excluded).

In 2004, after a 17 year hiatus, she released an album of covers of the songs she’d listened to in her teens My Colouring Book. Can’t believe that was eleven years ago – I remember the occasion well, since an Agnetha-crazy friend had pre-ordered the CD. He played it incessantly for a while – she has loyal fans!

It’s sensitively done, IMO – great song choices and nice clean production. Cilla Black’s “If I Thought You’d Ever Change Your Mind” is my pick although her rendition of “Sealed With a Kiss” is lovely too - I like hearing the key changes on that.

I can't edit either all of a sudden! I didn't realise that Ms.Fältskog is a formidable artist in her own right!

Gordon Giltrap was born on this day in 1948, in the ‘garden of England’ – Kent. He learnt to play the guitar at the age of twelve and was never formally tutored, which some might speculate, led to the development of his distinctive style.

He started out on the London folk scene along with contemporaries such as Bert Jansch, John Renbourn who sadly passed on 26 March this year – wonderful guitar player, and Mike Oldfield, but by 1976 had broken away from the singer/songwriter stance to a more proggy direction, releasing Visionary, a concept album based on the art and poetry of William Blake – it’s magnificent IMHO. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRpwZBWadr8.

He really crosses over when it comes to genre though, so no absolute pigeonholing for him – he’s even done some theatre and orchestral work, composing, as well as playing (he was the musical narrator in Cliff Richard’s musical Heathcliff and had a part in composition for the production). Giltrap is primarily an acoustic guitarist and composer and most of his work, and there’s a lot of it, is instrumental. People fling the ‘underrated’ label around a lot; in this instance, I think it’s well justified. This is his website which is probably the most accurate source of information - http://www.giltrap.co.uk.

His most recent album is on my ‘to purchase’ list – Ravens & Lullabies, with Oliver Wakeman (who seems just as proficient a piano player as his esteemed father!), and in deference to those whose tastes differ, this clip is not instrumental. Confusedmile:

^This is what I think of - the first song of hers I heard, - "Fly too High" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyo_1zyj5eQ

Simon Climie, born this day in 1957. Singer/songwriter and formerly one half of short-lived pop duo Climie Fisher. He and Rob Fisher started out as a session musicians at Abbey Road and together, managed to produce a couple of internationally creditable singles. When Climie Fisher disbanded after a mere two albums, Simon continued to fly – he has some serious song-writing and production skills, it would seem. He has had a hand in writing and producing songs for BB King, Michael McDonald, Zucchero, etc and some of his songs have been big hits for Aretha Franklin/George Michael and Amy Grant amongst others. He has worked fairly extensively with Eric Clapton, co-producing a number of Grammy Award winning albums. He and Clapton co-produced The Breeze, the tribute to JJ Cale. An impressive CV, indeed! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Climie

This, from 1987, was a fairly big hit - “Love Changes (Everything)” – sounds vaguely like Rod Stewart, sounds like it ought to be Rod Stewart ...
