Politics - Oceansoul - 24-10-2016 Jerome Wrote:Don't know who Bill O is but there is one thing I have heard from many people through the years during my travels. Americans do not know what is going on outside of America. I never hear Americans discussing things going on in other parts of the world unless there is some connection to America. They don't seem to realise that there is a big world out there. Even on this forum, we are discussing the American election, yet I do not see any ongoing discussion about Brexit or any other political situation going on in any other country in the world. Why is that? What happens in other countries isn't always on most Americans radar unless it is important and big news like the Ukraine-Crimea crisis, Russia, ISIL, Israel and Palestine, the Refugee crisis, etc. The News here is pretty America-centric for the most part and will occasionally mention events going on outside of the US. The election has taken up a lot of our time and has been the predominant concern right now for most Americans, yes. Regarding the UK and EU issue, I only know what I've heard some Europeans on both sides say on it, but I have no real opinion and argument to give on it. If I have nothing of substance to say then I don't. Anyone can start a political topic here if they want to, including about events going on outside the US. I wouldn't mind and it helps if people who are familiar with events I'm not going through have something to say since I don't live where they do. I tried starting a conversation on Mosul a few posts ago because people are dying there, but I got crickets. -shrug- Politics - Jerome - 24-10-2016 Well at least you are aware of what is going on outside of the US. Good for you! Politics - Music Head - 24-10-2016 Jerome Wrote:Don't know who Bill O is but there is one thing I have heard from many people through the years during my travels. I have a local cable network so I have news stations like MSNBC, Fox News, CNN, and HLN. Politics - Lovely Linda - 25-10-2016 My problem with Bill O'Reilly who is on FOX is he thinks he knows and every other news commentator on FOX more about the rest of the world than the average American person...They don't. I for one am very concerned about the rest of the world. The problem with our news reports are once the news gets sucked into one subject, they won't let it go. Hearing the Emails and Sex has gotten folks disgusted with this election. Same think over, and over, and over. Same speeches. Alot of this time could be taken up for the rest of the world. But, when the rest of the world takes center stage again, I will be right on it. No doubt. Bill O. does not have a monopoly on knowing what goes on in the rest of the world. That is all I was saying. Politics - Lovely Linda - 25-10-2016 Btw, I did bring up Benghazi more than once. I'm also interested in Syria, Israel, and the EU. America should leave the Philippines. Politics - Lovely Linda - 25-10-2016 I'm also concerned about Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico just to name a few more. We can not police the whole world. We get in a rut when we invade other countries. Then it is hard to pull out such as Iraq. We should have never been there to start with. Politics - Lovely Linda - 26-10-2016 Obamacare going up as high as 50% in some states. Arizona premiums going up 116%. No one is going to have to eliminate Obamacare. Obamacare is doing it itself. I'm not signing up again. Politics - Lovely Linda - 26-10-2016 Elizabeth Warren's rant about "nasty women" did nothing to help Hillary. It was stupid! Women don't want to hear that! Politics - Music Head - 26-10-2016 wait for it |
