What Did You Buy? - Ruby - 28-05-2016 ^^So ... Spirit .... they didnât have too much success commercially â maybe because they were quite eclectic in style, not to mention the competition that was around at that time â 60âs/70âs. They were a psychedelic, jazz rock, sometimes art rock band, and bit proggy now and then too. Their lead guitarist, Randy California, wrote âTaurusâ â the intro to which piece his estate is claiming was appropriated by Jimmy Page for âStairway to Heavenâ. But that's a whole 'nother story and they were so much more than that particular can of worms â a talented bunch of guys who made some very nice albums. Ed Cassidy â drummer whoâd been a founding member of The Rising Sons with Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal, known for his trademark shaven head and black clothing which really stood out at the time, as you can imagine â there was a lot of hair about back then! He was also 20 years older than the rest of âem and died in 2012 at the ripe old age of 89. Randy California â lead guitarist, songwriter, backing vocalist â played with Jimi Hendrix and once stood in for Ritchie Blackmore on a DP tour â that calibre of muso. He came to a tragic end whilst rescuing his son from a rip current. The sonâs Trust is engaged in the lawsuit over Taurus. Jon Locke â keyboardist and composer, raised in a classical music environment â he went on to play with Nazareth â passed away in 2006 â cancer. Jay Ferguson â lead vocals, percussion and songwriting duty shared with Randy California â went on to form Jo Jo Gunne after Spirit, then went solo and heâs still going strong â ventured into film and TV soundtracks and is the composer of the NCIS theme. Mark Andes â bassist, he was with Canned Heat briefly before Spirit and he also moved on to Jo Jo Gunne, then Firefall, Heart and Mirabal â and now back to Firefall, I believe. Heâs released one solo album. The band was originally called Spirits Rebellious, after a book by Kahlil Gibran, but that was shortened quite quickly to Spirit, for obvious reasons! Here are some clips from Clear â âGive a Life, Take a Lifeâ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDWdezIcQWw âIâm Truckinâ â â written by Jon Locke - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3vAmm6riDc âSo Little Time to Flyâ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PA73g431_iU What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 29-05-2016 elcheapo discount bin purchases: ![]() BOB DYLAN "the times they are a-changing" own it on vinyl but never on cd, $3 ![]() MIKE & THE MECHANICS "the living years" own it on vinyl, love it, $2 What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 03-06-2016 ive been able to treat myself to a few more purchases than normal over the last five or six weeks because I gave up smoking six weeks ago, leaves me over $100 better off a week now! ![]() PAUL DEMPSEY "strange loop" hard this one on Spotify a couple of weeks ago, really liked it so I bought it ![]() ARIANA GRANDE "dangerous woman" another new release listen a couple of weeks ago... and while I was there my mate Tem recommended I get her previous effort also, he said its better than the new one, not that theres anything wrong with the new one! ![]() ARIANA GRANDE "my everything" What Did You Buy? - davis - 03-06-2016 yesterday I pre-ordered this: http://www.amazon.com/Loud-Hailer-Jeff-Beck/dp/B01DRNDYMM/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1464939285&sr=1-1&keywords=jeff+beck |
