A few tracks were decent here, but overall I find it hard to get by those screechy, whiney, hiccupy vocals of Dale Bozio. Band was formed in 1980 by her and hubby Terry. He and two other band members were former Zappa band alumni, which gives them some street cred with me, but that doesn't help put over the synth pop sound. This is their debut album and also their best selling, with four singles ready for MTV play. Walking In L.A. was the highest charting of those, but best for me is Words. Album reached #17 on the Billboard charts. The group only had 3 albums before hanging it up. Very synth/keyboard heavy album which is not my thing. Vocalist has that Lady Gaga look. Bottom line, I can handle 4 tracks off here, but the other 8 are just too ear piercing. Those 4 have that too, but something overcomes it.

PETER GABRIEL " peter gabriel" 1980, vinyl. #1 uk, #29 au, #22 us.

this is the third of four consecutive releases by PG that are self titled.
not really a big fan of Genesis or the guys as solo artists, but do have one Genesis, two Phil, this one and a Mike and the mechanics album (which incidently i have already picked out and allotted for playing tomorrow).
now, i may be way off the mark here, but i feel this one has a very similar theme to PF's "the wall" in which a guy with problems shields himself behind his security blanket(the wall), in which his family/friends tries to pull him back to reality in thesongs "not one of us" and "lead a normal life"...not sure if they succeed or not, which is why i could be reading something in this album which isnt there????
the final track "biko" is a tribute to South Africaan anti-aparthied activist Steven Biko who was brutally murdered by SA police whilst in their custody.

Garagey debut from 1992.

This has been a huge hit with the critics. Definitely a strong album, but I'd question some of the praise heaped on it.

Nice for a Friday afternoon in the garden.

Scotlands Mike Scott moved his band Another Pretty Face to England to make his mark. He made it after they split and he formed the Waterboys. Fourth album here and it hits the spot for me. After three releases bandmate Karl Wallinger left to form World Party, and the band moved to Ireland for a fresh start. That led to picking up some traditional Irish musicians and this fabulous release. Only two more albums were in the tank before the band split and Scott went on to attempt a solo career. That lasted for two albums before the band reformed around 2000 and are still a unit I think. Lost touch after this album but it would take a lot to equal it. The band never had much commercial success, but had that loyal cult following. This would become their best selling album reaching #13 in the U.K. and a disappointing #76 in the states. Two singles of Fishermans Blues and World Party could only manage placing on the Modern Rock charts. Love five tracks, Fishermans Blues, Strange Boat, Has Anybody Seen Hank, When Will We Be Married, and And A Bang On The Ear, with that being my favorite. Only Dunford's Fancy fails to make a mark.

i dont have this one, only the one before it with :the whole of the moon: single on it and from memory thats a good album.
track 1 on your one still gets a whirl on the radio every now and then over here.

im also pretty sure ive seen something about them touring as late as 2010.

Once again, not sure why I have a best of when I have the albums they are from. Only excuse is it's LC. The first eight of these are pulled from I'm Your Man and The Future. The next three are live performances of older tracks which only the first lives up to the original. The last two are previously unreleased and should have remained so. They had to have something new to suck in the fanatics. I guess that was me. Guess I'll go with Dance Me To The End Of Love for a favorite this time, as the only live track that holds up. The other two live tracks, Suzanne and Hallelujah, are both great songs, but these live tracks don't compare to the studio versions. This doesn't equal his first best of set and I'm surprised nothing is pulled from Death Of A Ladies Man (it wasn't that bad) or Recent Songs, which were released after that. Still, hard for me to give any Leonard compilation a bad grade. As usual, this album had no impact in the U.S.

Scottish cartoon Punks' debut from 1978.

Humourous, rather than angry, The Rezillos fit somewhere between the Ramones with their '60s-influenced Punk, and the B-52s kitsch R&R. Almost complete adherence to the maxim that said any song longer than three minutes was self-indulgent means that there's no time to get bored during this album.

Smart, silly Punk.

This CD also contains their second, and last album Mission Accomplished...But The Beat Goes on, which was from a farewell gig the following year. This is a poorly recorded, but breathless live set that sounds like it would have been a fantastic gig. Contains a killer version of The Sweet's Ballroom Blitz.
