BUCKS FIZZ "making your mind up" B/W "dont stop" 1981
debut single from this UK abnd that won the Eurovision Song Contest that year....
"A" side is so catchy that its annoyingly good!
"B" side is pretty good also...
these guys went on for almost twenty years with different personel changes and varying degrees of success in the UK
single peaked at #1 in the UK but only managed #6 here in Australia

JEWEL AKENS "the birds and the bees" B/W "tic-tac toe" 1965
without a doubt, a definate "one hit wonder" in the UK and Australia...
but what a hit to have as your only one!
"A" side is IMO a pop classic from that or any era...
"B" side is on par with the "A" side also...
i have known this song ever since i was a youngster but never knew the artist name, or even that Jewel was black!
two surprises in one...but when you realise it..he does sound an aweful lot like Sam Cooke...
single only made it to #29 in the UK...shame on you Britain,shame on you!

TOMMY ROE "eveybody" B/W "theres a great day-a-coming" 1963
there you go, you learn something everyday...because for some reason i always thought Tommy was a UK'er?!
i love both sides of this single...
"A" side is a pretty good rocker from that period.
"B" side has a gospel tinge to it as you could probably gather from its title...
i know and love several of his other hit singles from back in the day so i think its time to update and put a
compilation on my 'to buy' list!
single reached a respectable #9 in the UK...

BORIS GARDINER "i want to wake up with you" B/W "not like you" 1986
Reggae artist who only had one real hit here in Australia with this one...
im not a big fan of reggae, but like a few bits here and there...
this "A" side is a typical 1980s reggae/pop crossover track and i love it...
cant say much for the "B" side, i hate it
single peaked at #1 in Australia

debut single from this UK boyband(well, thats what theyd call them nowadays anyway!)
"A" side is extremely catchy with its hook...
"B" side has a distinct Smokie feel to it, love that one!

their biggest success wasnt one of their songs that they sung but a cover of one of their songs...
Toni Basil had a huge hit in the early 1980s with "mickey"....remember that one?
well, Racey wrote and recorded the original on their debut album "smash and grab" in 1978,
they called the track "kitty", not "mickey"

we all know johnny's music even though he wasnt really a big star in his own right...
more like Carl Perkins...a highly influential artist.

a late fifties/early to mid sixties UK 'teen idol'....
A" side has a distinct Buddy Holly feel to it...i dont like it
"B" side is a bit slower...i like that one

now heres a band you guys would not have heard of....
THE REELS "this guy's in love with you" B/W "cry" 1982
short lived Aussie outfit from late 70s-mid 1980s...
their music was ofter quirky with a tinge of ska....
their biggest hits here were covers of old songs ie: Gentleman Jim's "according to my heart",CCR's "bad moon rising" and this Bacharach/David classic...
"A" side, i like it, was pleasant enough to listen to after thirty odd years...
"B" side, i dont like it, and neither side here is ska based!
