Simon Raymonde was born on this day in 1962 in London, England. He’s a musician (bass and keyboards) and a record producer; he runs Bella Union, the label that’s released music by John Grant, Fleet Foxes, Midlake and Jonathan Wilson, to name the artists I’m familiar with – there are plenty more! He seems to be well respected in the trade winning the Association of Independent Music’s Entrepreneur of the Year prize in 2012, as well as being awarded Best Independent Label of the Year in 2010, 2012 and 2014 (UK).

His own, most significant musical project was as one third of the Cocteau Twins (name chosen from a Simple Minds song when there were only two band members in the line-up) between 1984 and 1997.

After a seventeen-year break from making music, last year, Mr Raymonde and Stephanie Dosen (singer/songwriter of Massive Attack fame), under the name Snowbird, released their album Moon. This is from that …

^Nice! He really is an iconic figure.

Graeme Hunter Kelling was born on this day in 1957 in Paisley, Scotland.

Guitarist and occasional writer for the pop/rock band Deacon Blue (their name was taken from a Steely Dan number – “Deacon Blues”) – he was one of the original members and recorded the first four albums with them before they split up in 1994. He ran a recording studio and composed music for film and TV during the five years before the group re-formed in 1999 after a reunion gig. By that time though, Kelling had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He continued to work with them for as long as he was able, and contributed to two further albums before passing away on 10 June 2004 - RIP.

They had a pretty cool, upbeat sound IMHO, and some great singles, “Dignity” being one of them. Graeme Kelling wrote this one - “Loaded” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsjDnLII1Go , and the clip below is from their highest charting album When the World Knows Your Name. A slightly strange backdrop, but never mind! …

lol
yea I know what a hard time you have with the language

what do you mean you can't edit?

^Yes, well ... lol!
The edit button takes me to a blank page on that post. It doesn't happen all the time, of course; only at crucial moments.
Seem to remember something about copy and paste so will try that now.

... sorted.

And this one showed up all on its own - no copy and paste! Weird.

Agnetha Fältskog was born on 05 April 1950. She was already a well-known name in Sweden before ABBA, and had been writing songs and performing since her late teens. She’s released 12 studio albums and 43 singles of her own in addition to the ABBA releases of 8 studio albums and 73 singles (compilations and live albums excluded).

In 2004, after a 17 year hiatus, she released an album of covers of the songs she’d listened to in her teens My Colouring Book. Can’t believe that was eleven years ago – I remember the occasion well, since an Agnetha-crazy friend had pre-ordered the CD. He played it incessantly for a while – she has loyal fans!

It’s sensitively done, IMO – great song choices and nice clean production. Cilla Black’s “If I Thought You’d Ever Change Your Mind” is my pick although her rendition of “Sealed With a Kiss” is lovely too - I like hearing the key changes on that.
