What Are You Listening To? - bob_32_116 - 26-05-2016 I don't think Yoko's such a terrible songwriter, it's just that she couldn't sing. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Currently listening to Holst - The Planets, played by the Berlin Philharmoniker under Herbert von Karajan. What Are You Listening To? - bob_32_116 - 26-05-2016 Coincidentally, I just heard on radio a remix of Yoko singing "Give Me Something", remixed by, of all people, Sparks. I did not recognise her, never having actually heard the song before. It's not that bad if you like the quirky music style that Sparks are known for... and as for her voice, she is not a great singer by any means, but I have heard worse, both male and female. She released an album a few years ago called "Yes I'm a Witch" that consisted of remakes of her songs done with the help of various people in the industry; apparently there is now a sequel to that album, featuring this track. What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 26-05-2016 yes, I did read about that "yes,im a witch" project a while ago it did get very good reviews in the UK and Australia, I didn't see any reviews from other places. Sparks and Yoko...now that could possibly work John said in a BBC radio interview he gave the day before he died that he thought B-52's were a modern version of Yoko Ono, so maybe she should pair up with them also. I have that BBC radio interview, it was released some years ago as a double cd set, it was a very candid interview, nothing was off limits and he answered every question posed to him. its worth seeking out. What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-05-2016 DAVID CROSBY "croz" cd, 2014 solo career stats: studio albums..............4 singles........................0 this album............#36US Crosby's fourth solo set and first one in twenty years..... only one I his I own, and that was only because this was in a discount bin somewhere.... never been a big fan of The Croz as a singer, great harmoniser, lousy front man IMO... anyway... songs on here would be considered easy listening, jazzy and folky... some nice tunes, cool harmonies, Knopfler guests on the opening track as featured guitarist... but I cant hear his style, could be anyone for all I know. not a bad album overall, infact very good for a guy in his 70s, better than most of Neil Young has done in the last decade, and on par with Graham Nash's set from earlier this year I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: holding on to nothing best track: slice of time tracks: 1...whats broken ** 2...time I have ** 3...holding onto nothing * 4...the clearing ** 5...radio ** 6...slice of time ** 7...set the baggage down ** 8...I she called * 9...dangerous night ** 10.morning falling ** 11.find a heart * 3s=0 2s=8 1s=3 rating: 1.8 What Are You Listening To? - Lovely Linda - 13-06-2016 Didn't know exactly where to put this. She sounds like Robin Gibb to me  I was wondering where Howie went  What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 18-06-2016 ![]() LEON RUSSELL "the best of....."cd, 2011 career stats: studio albums...........35 singles.....................19 it may sound stupid but i'd not heard of Leon until he recorded "the union" with Elton earlier in 2011.... did some research and found he was a huge influence on Elton not only when he was starting out but throughout his career also... so not only did I own the superb "the union" album but I also picked up his debut set "carney", which is also superb IMO, followed up with this one later in the year... you can hear the influence in these songs without delving too deep in to them... not sure I would call this a "best of" as over thirty odd albums he must have written enough tracks to not warrant covers on this one... either way, his covers are pretty good also I only for the act that they are nt straight covers of old songs at Russell puts his own stamp on them to make them his own... still, a very very good compilation roma musical legend I knew nothing about ive short years ago! I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: if I were a carpenter best track: shoot out on the plantation tracks: 1...tryin' to stay alive *** 2...shoot out on the plantation *** 3...if it wasn't for bad (with Elton John) *** 4...a song for you *** 5...hummingbird ** 6...tight rope *** 7...delta ** 8...stranger in a strange land ** 9...its a hard rain's a-gonna fall ** 10.this masquerade ** 11.out in the woods ** 12.if I were a carpenter ** 13.heartbreak hotel (with Willie Nelson) ** 14.lady blue *** 15.back to the island *** 3s=7 2s=8 1s=0 rating: 2.5 What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 18-06-2016 The Fantastic Strings of Felix Slatkin â Street Scene ![]() Donât know why it is that this record so much appeals to me â bought on a whim. It must be to do with the whole package. It was recorded in 1961 with the concert violinist, Felix Slatkin conducting his Fantastic Strings orchestra. He is known for having been responsible for quite a few violin solos in early movies, as well as for developing the Hollywood String Quartet, and he was the Twentieth Century Fox concertmaster for some time. He was also Frank Sinatraâs concertmaster and conductor of choice in the 50âs. The cover of this album is just gorgeous with its die cut outer and great photos, and the quality of the card is way superior to todayâs issues; the record itself is also in pristine condition and a thick, heavy pressing â no chance of this one warping! The tracks all have something to do with a street, or boulevard, walkway, etc., hence the title. They still use the word âstereophonicâ in full too (well mine does - can't find a photo that matches exactly) â covered all their bases did Liberty, with copyright notices and all. Itâs so very retro, warm and fuzzy and completely inoffensive â unequivocally lounge music! Itâs also quite spacey in an odd kind of way. An altogether satisfying experience from a sensory perspective â something you donât get from digital or online listening. Must be having a moment since itâs quite far removed from my normal choices of music! I love it. What Are You Listening To? - Mrrusty1 - 20-06-2016 A change of scenes Stan Getz with Kenny Clark and Francy Boland very avante garde experimental big band jazz album featuring Stan Getz released in 1971 very overlooked but superb album What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 22-06-2016 from the cd room ![]() from the Capitol series of crooner compilations Mel started as an actor then branched out peaked in the 40's tunes here only cover from 49-51 just found out Mel co-wrote The Christmas Song his only #1 song |
