What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 08-01-2017

Thx - busy listening/watching right now. A song Charlie and I used to play together (an old mate from Cape town). And Emmylou looking as classy as hell.

Update - on the to-buy list for sure!

even though im a huge fan of NY (as youre well aware),
I sometimes wish that instead of releasing one or two albums of mediocre each year,
that he would concentrate on making one great album every third or fourth year because as you know, sometimes "less is more"..
I mean lets face it, NY was "old hat/yesterdays news" before Harvest Moon came out, then all of a sudden he releases it and a couple of years later, wham!, Prairie Wind came out, two of his best albums ever IMO.

love that clip CH
why does that guy keep sweeping the same spot?

What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 09-01-2017

because he's trying to sweep away the crap Neil released over the previous decade, problem was, there was a lot to put in the trash...LMAO

BTW,
I play the broom pretty good also.

Piers Faccini – I Dreamed an Island

I guess this album should be classified as folk/world music, since he sings in English, Italian, French and Arabic and somehow combines influences from the Mediterranean, North/West Africa and good ol’ Blighty. Quite how he manages this is anyone’s guess! Must be in the genes.

I listened when it was released late-ish last year and just didn’t get around to saying anything about it, but it has drawn me back. I like the sincerity, the different sounds and instruments, and the fact that it’s quite hard to pin down. I get a few Jeff Buckley type vocals now and then, or a more highly evolved Nick Drake, but on the whole Faccini is mellow (or comes across that way) and never strident - less inclined to extremes a la Buckley; and that is not to say he is in the least bit boring, quite the reverse. IMHO he is intelligent and erudite and has a great voice. Kind of like a one man Fairport Convention run amok on twangy, melancholy instruments with some African rhythms and a bit of political commentary chucked into the mix for good measure. …. On second thoughts, maybe that last part is a slightly OTT description, but I’m leaving it anyway.

The most annoying thing is that I can’t find clips to the tracks I really want to post, but anyway … they’re not available to me, perhaps they’ll be available elsewhere in the world if anyone cares to look them up.

Managed to find one lonely clip …

LEONARD COHEN "songs from a room" cd, 1969

career stats:
studio albums............14
singles......................44

this album.................#10 CAN...#63 US...#2 UK

second album from Mr.Cohen...
the UK seemed to be on board well before the US, but I came on board after everyone
only purchasing my first album about five years ago...
continues the same ballad, folky, poetic style of his debut...
lyrically, this guy is up there with Dylan, vocally, he is on par with him also and you
can take that as you want...
own his first three albums plus the latest one and a double cd compilation,
those first three are as good as eachother, I cant split them, all classy albums....
pretty difficult to pick a best track here, the ones that score ** were unlucky not to get
a love rating and each time I hear this album (as with the other two early ones) my opinion
of tracks vary depending on what mood im in, I mean this as in what track I love best of all,
on this occasion im going for the final track on the album which, IMO, is so close to what Dylan could
do, youd swear it was a Dylan track...
just goes to show how good this guy was when "bird on a wire" is not the stand out track on the album!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

worst track: the partisan
best track: tonight will be fine

tracks:

1...bird on a wire ***

3...a bunch of lonesome heroes **
4...the partisan **
5...seems so long ago, Nancy **
6...the old revolution ***
7...the butcher ***
8...you know who I am **
9...lady midnight ***
10.tonight will be fine ***

This is sort of folky:

[Image: ?u=http%3A%2F%2Fi.ebayimg.com%2Fimages%2...00.jpg&f=1]

Tiddas were a group of three women, two aboriginal and one white, who had a brief period of success in the 1990's. The name is a Koori word meaning "sisters".

This EP was their first release. They did a number of full-length albums after that, but I don't think they ever managed to set the world on fire.

Worst track: My Brother (a bit too preachy)

Best track: Happy Earth
