Glammed up Alt-Rock that was placed in the Britpop (stupid genre) category by the media.

This was their third, from 1997, and the first without key song-writer Bernard Butler. The first two are both dazzlers IMV, and whilst this one contains some great songs, it doesn't match the predecessors.

Whilst it's certainly not a bad album, it was the last of theirs I bought.

Still enjoyed listening again...

The groups major label debut and I think what led me to explore some previous work. Although on this listen it didn't seem to measure up, the Balloon Man track makes it worthwhile and into the respectable rating area. Have no idea what it means but it sure sounds good. Guest appearances from Peter Buck (R.E.M.) and Glenn Tilbrook (Squeeze). A couple of rubbish tracks but overall a decent effort. I have a few other of Robyns albums but I think this one is the best. He has continued to plug away out there but has never hit the mainstream, which is sometimes a good thing. A paltry #111 in the states is the best this album could manage.

sorry, i didnt write that previous post accurately, what i meant was...i wasnt keen on the album as a whole,
liked Balloon Man, Sleeping with your devil mask, luminous rose...the rest were average tracks,

but again its nice to hear some of the stuff i dont know.

Follow up to the classic debut of Look Sharp. Hard to live up to that one, but a good effort. This is the lp which I must have purchased just to have, as I also own the gimmick release of the album tracks released as a box of five 45's. Hey, that one also had a cool poster. I had to be cool back then. Wore my Look Sharp pin at the record store for a long time. Get off my back. Joe would later move his brand of pop/punk into the jazz area where he gained an even wider critical praise. I think that jazz area was where he truly wanted to be. Night and Day was his shining achievement for me. This album reached #12 in the U.K. and #22 in the U.S. One of my top tracks of It's Different For Girls was a #5 hit in the U.K. but failed to chart here. A slower paced reggae flavored Geraldine And John comes out best for me.
