What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 07-07-2016

I agree - Bob's 'Infidels' is just incredible. I have a lot of Jackson Browne's stuff but 'Running On Empty' is his high point for me.

You all know me, well some of you do, my musical taste is all over the place! Lately I have been listening to Led Zeppelins 10 albums... they had a British folk thread on some of their songs not unlike Jethro Tull so I thought I would explore contemporary folk music..... whatever that means, since many of today's folk songs are traditional covers. Well this band who disbanded this year tweaked my ear!

What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 04-08-2016

I’ve been listening to Adieu False Heart by Linda Ronstadt and Cajun/Creole singer Ann Savoy. It’s absolutely charming. It was Linda’s last studio recording before she announced her retirement and that she has Parkinson’s and can no longer sing and perform –so sad. All songs were written by others.

Ann is an alto and sings in French and Linda does not speak French and is a soprano – she said of this album "We could have made a quilt, I guess, except we're musicians, so we're making a record together instead.” They called themselves the Zozo Sisters and collaborated on a few projects, I think. This really is a lovely, warm, accomplished piece of work by two ladies who are experts of their craft.

Some tracks that I particularly like and which cover the feel of the whole album ….

The title track – written by Arthur Smith - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZpi3ae4yao

“Marie Mouri” by David Greely – a song derived from the poem of a Creole slave whose lover, Marie, is dead and he is mystified as to why the birds still sing and the grass is still green – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZulc6nNiJY

“Rattle My Cage” written by Chas Justus - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkWXH-C07uw

And Richard Thompson’s “King of Bohemia” … this is beautiful …

NEIL YOUNG "prairie wind" 2005, cd.

career stats:
studio albums........36
singles..................59

this album.........................#3 CAN...#11 US...#22 UK...#46 AU

solo set #26 for Mr.Young...
meaning he has released a further ten studio albums in the last decade!...
the thirty six he has released in total don't include CSNY,Stills/Young,Buffalo Springfield,
and all the live albums he's released plus the ten or so he has recorded but not released because
he went of on other tangents when he finished them...
anyway, back to this album now we've had a brief history lesson about his prolific recording nature...
classic Neil IMO....
goes back to his folky/country/acoustic best with this one
songs are a bit morbid in places as he dwells on his fathers passing, his own mortality and looking back into
the midsts of time at his own childhood memories in Canada and one about his guitar (which was originally owned by Hank Williams)...
not really a dud track, but the worst on here anyway, is "he was the king", a Presley tribute which has sort of a 1950s rockabilly sound
happening, its lighthearted, almost novelty without being novelty if you know what I mean...
but or the most part, he paints beautiful landscapes/imagery with his words here...
I really wish he would released one album every few years and make it a quality one instead of what seems like one every few months
with a lot of mediocre material on it...
incidently, this one was written and recorded over a period of ten days...
he summoned his players to Nashville and had nothing for them but each night in his hotel room he would write one song,
he would present it to the band the next day, they would record it and presto...a finished track (quality tracks)...
lovely tunes and melodies on here

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

worst track: he was The King
best track: its a dream
