'a place in the sun' is a cover version of Stevie wonder's hit from 1966, this one however, lacks the 'soul' of the Motown legends version, its strange really because the Young Rascals sounded really soulful at times, but when they actually sung a real soul song they lacked the soul feeling??? the album reached #5 in the US but didnt chart in the UK. singles from the album were: Groovin' #1 US, #8 UK A Girl Like You #10 US, #37 UK How Can I Be Sure #4 US Sueno UK release but not charted i like this album; best track: Groovin' worst track: a Place In The Sun tracks: 1....A Girl Like You** 2....Find Somebody** both tracks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaHOoa3BAjs&feature=related (audio) 3....I'm So Happy Now** 4....Sueno** 5....How Can I Be Sure** above tracks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cYCfDb3Gqk&feature=related (audio) 6....Groovin'*** 7....If You Knew** 8....I Dont Love You Anymore** above tracks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvARG1kqIIM (audio) 9....You Better Run** 10..A Place In The Sun* 11..It's Love* above tracks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZrGqxXSFxc (audio) 3s-1 2s-8 1s-2 rating 2.0 What Are You Listening To? - Thraak - 14-12-2010 Amazing live version. Watch out for the crowd invading the stage towards the end! What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 17-12-2010 from my library (vinyl) ![]() Had to have picked this up at some yard sale along the way. This must be the second time I've played it and I probably blocked it out of my mind. This is not your typical James Brown album. Although well into his career that had labeled him the Godfather of Soul, this must have been some side project. It is an all instrumental album. You never hear even that patented scream. I have never seen James Brown play an instrument. I'm sure he has and I've just not seen it. Some of this could fit into the jazz area but there is quite a bit of funk also. Nothing is memorable and it scores as low as you can go for me. It did reach #101 on the Billboard charts, based on the fact that it is JB I guess. Not surprising there is only one clip available. What Are You Listening To? - JazzyRandy - 20-12-2010 I listened to three Soul albums this morning. Well, four actually, but I'll list three here. John Legend & The Roots Wake Up! 2010 ![]() The Ohio Players Contradiction 1976 ... and Honey 1975 ![]() ![]() The first is a album of covers of 60s-70s songs with social messages. Initially, I only liked a handful of the songs. Well, I liked most of them, but only a handful got a better than average grade from me. Now, nearly the entire album gets a superior rating and only two songs (of 12) get skipped when I listen. This album should not be overlooked. It has earned a spot in my year-end top 10. The next two albums for the day are by one of the top Funk bands of 70s. I love everything about the Ohio Players. If all you know about the group are their hits, you're missing out on some great music. Every album they released in the 70s was full of great songs. There's probably only a song per album (at most) that doesn't thrill my ears. That reminds me, I wrote a Funk primer for another spot that I should probably post here one day. What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 20-12-2010 ^ Stick you Funk primer in the Beginners Guide... section. It's getting to be a good resource, and a Funk guide would be very welcome. |
