Which decade has better music? - Marquinhos Valadão - 08-09-2012

I vote the 80´s ´cause it was, in my opinion, the decade where the so-call "new music" begins to take place. And by new music I don´t mean (in any circunstance), pop music! I meant, that by the 80's the ideias of creating something new out of music, instead of the established genres already, took place.
Also for a matter of respect.
Without these year of music revolution perhaps we wouldn´t have this kind of "freeway" music mentality that lead us to some many band and types of sounds nowadays.

Yes....but the same could be said for the 60's. It's hard to choose one decade.

Actually to be truthful folks I'd pick from 1964 (British Invasion) to 1975 (before Disco) as my favorite period of music . So it bridges the 60s to the 70s (10 to 11 years or so).

i think its impossible to pick an entire decde, but each decade certainly had three or four years of inventive or standout music/artists....

1950s...birth of rock and roll 54-57
1960s...british invasion 63-66, and folk rock 67-69
1970s...71-74 glam rock/stadium rock, 76-77 punk rock
1980s...UK gay parade 81-84(culture club, wham, frankie goes to hollywood, bronski beat etc)..i call it 'the second british invasion
1990s... 91-94 grunge, 93-96 britpop

2000s were strange, eminem put rap in the foreground for a lot of people who otherwise dismissed it, alt.rock became huge, americana bands emerged, folk got a new lease of life.

I said 70s, because I feel like that was when there was the biggest explosion of musical experimentation with good results. So many new genres, so many amazing artists. I almost voted 90s, for the same reason, but I feel like after the 70s, a lot of artists and groups started trying to identify with genres and keep honing those sounds into a more concentrated form. Of course, there will always be both kinds of artists--those who imitate or improve what's been done, and those who avoid what came before--but when I go through my exhaustive collection of music...the 70s ALWAYS blows my freakin' mind!

Not to say other decades weren't awesome. The question that starts this thread is almost too loaded. But I know the OP didn't intend it that way, or pose it with any sort of bad motive.

70s!
