What Did You Buy? - Ruby - 14-10-2015 Vinyl - found some excellent records! I'm really, really pleased with these. STRAWBS - From the Witchwood JACKSON BROWNE - Jackson Browne CAMEL - The Single Factor MIKE OLDFIELD - Exposed What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 15-10-2015 ive never heard a Strawbs album.... never heard a Camel album neither.... I own "tubular bells" and the single "moonlight shadow" by Oldfield... I don't own that Jackson Browne album, but I love his material. What Did You Buy? - Jerome - 15-10-2015 I have two of them MO and Camel, used to own the JB and have never heard the Strawbs one. What Did You Buy? - Ruby - 15-10-2015 CH - if you like the Moody Blues, you might conceivably enjoy some Strawbs. Lol! â youâll be a proggie before you know it! Jerome and CH - From the Witchwood is less prog than folk rock â a transition album for them and their last with Rick Wakeman on the keys, but itâs just amazing â I love it. Listen to the remastered version if possible. Iâm after the vinyl because itâs a collecting thing, and I like all their albums from the early seventies â some more so than others, but theyâre all really good music. These are craftsmen â they were not just churning out forgettable fodder for the masses, thank god! Iâm sure it didnât even enter their minds. Those other titles are â Grave New World, Bursting at the Seams, Hero and Heroine, Ghosts, and Nomadness. Thereâs another early one that they recorded with Sandy Denny, titled All Our Own Work which you might like too. Iâll post some favourites tracks when I get more time. Hereâs a taster from From The Witchwood - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8XcoLQ5WLY The Jackson Browne is his debut and youâd never believe that. Stunning stuff and incredible to think he was only 23 when he did this. Infinitely superior to anything you hear coming out of the early 20âs now (age group, that is) â there is simply no comparison in terms of musicality, depth of emotion, lyrical ability â I dunno â weâre missing something bigtime! Itâs so thoughtful â so beautifully put together and thereâs work and effort behind it which absolutely shines through. If you like those early albums of his â this is an absolute must have! This is a poignant, lovely song that is in tribute to a friend - a bit sombre since it deals with some harsh realities, but it's so honest and heartfelt - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MinxsMNywk CH again - Camel â not sure if they would appeal to you. Perhaps Nude would. Give that one a spin if you have the chance. Itâs a concept album â based on the true story of a Japanese âholdoutâ soldier who was marooned on an island in WWII and who had been given orders not to surrender, nor take his own life under any circumstances. He never believed reports of the end of the war and in a nutshell, he literally held out until he was officially relieved of his duty in 1974. Jeez! You should really listen to the whole thing, but this track can stand alone - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XhO--WHpZ4 The Oldfield is a double live album that I havenât heard yet. What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 17-10-2015 No, No, No.... don't say i'll be "Proggie before I know it" Ruby....ive spent my whole musical life dissing that stuff....! thanks for the heads up on Strawbs...they have been mentioned on MD several times(by you mainly Ruby), they are on the "to listen to" list as we speak, problem is, the list is currently about four pages long, as you can imagine. Jackson Browne was far more mature musically than his age that's for sure, problem is, when youre so musically mature at a young age that once you reach 30 theres no where/way of progressing further but yeah, I love his material even his latter material is pretty darn good IMO. Camel: I read a book about that Japanese soldier years ago....from memory the Japanese leader had to personally advise that the war was over and he could lay down his gun and go back home. I will get around to Camel one day because you never know it may 'click' with me at some point as my musical tastes evolve all the time. What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 17-10-2015 Im still waiting for my mate Adrian to get an album in that I ordered a few weeks ago(im in no hurry and theres no urgency to get it), and while I was in his store I skimmed through the 'three for $10" bins with the conscious decision to pick up three cds by artists I have not heard of previously, because there has been a delay with the one I ordered Adrian said I could grab four for $10.....so I did and here they are: ![]() Vanishing Point "in thought" looks like it is probably either hard rock or metal by the cover and the song titles ![]() Vision Divine "stream of consciousness" another that looks like it may be metal or hard rock from the cover and song titles ![]() Vespers Descent "fragments of the forgotten" again, most probably metal/hard rock... I just realised that the above three artists all begin with the letter "V"...coincidence???? and finally: ![]() St. Vincent "strange mercy" I cant pick this one by the cover or the song titles so this one will be a total surprise when I get to giving it a spin in the car... What Did You Buy? - Ruby - 19-10-2015 ^Interested to hear what you think of the St Vincent CH. She's collaborated with David Byrne and Andrew Bird but I don't really know her music apart from a few odd snippets. Unplanned purchases! I seem to be collecting debut albums, inadvertently â¦. vinyl. FOREIGNER - Foreigner CAT STEVENS - Matthew & Son What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-10-2015 thanks for the information Ruby..., I look foreward to hearing St.Vincent and the others... What Did You Buy? - CRAZY-HORSE - 26-10-2015 Eagles of Death Metal "zipper down" I nearly didn't buy it because of the crass cover, but I did anyway.... funny story to this one.... im looking in the 'popular' section of the cd store....couldn't find it im now looking in the 'alternative' section of the cd store....I still cant find it so ask one of the sales staff...their answer...."its in the 'metal' section, you know,Death Metal"!!!!! im like..."these guys are alternative not metal"! I have a big bugbear and ask to speak to the manager... the manager comes out and I tell him my complaint that it is not where its supposed to be... he says...."well it says Metal on the cover"... I say...."do you or your sales people not know your product?" he shrugs his shoulders and couldn't answer me... I WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO THAT STORE AGAIN! What Did You Buy? - Music Head - 26-10-2015 damn dude kind of rough on them speaking from experience when new releases came in once a week no way you can expect what some obscure group/artist sounds like the only thing you have to go by is the cover and that one looks like metal plus the name includes the word metal that's where I would have stuck it too |
