PAUL KELLY "spring and fall" cd, 2012

career stats:
studio albums......21
singles................53

this album..............#8 AU
singles:
"new found year".....no chart action

Paul's nineteenth studio set...
hard to believe he has now been around thirty six years and just released a new album...
this one is primarily acoustic and firmly in the folk mould...
his lyrics are still as good as they ever were but the melodies are less melodic, focusing more
on 'feel' and emotion than earlier releases...
not a bad album for a guy this far into his career and probably the worst one I own, but it still makes the grade...

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: somehow new
best track: new found year

PAUL KELLY & THE MESSENGERS "hidden things" cd, 1992

career stats:
studio albums........20
singles..................53

this album...............#29 AU...#39 NZ
singles:
"when I first met your ma"......no chart action

Kelly's eighth studio set and last one with The Messengers...
its not really a newly recorded album but a collection of songs that didn't make it onto
previous albums...that doesn't mean these are second rate songs, I think some o his best
work is on this one...
I put it in the olk thread because most of these are acoustic tracks and fit the folk mold
better than the alternative section IMO...
so, eighteen tracks all very good or brilliant, shows how prolific and how much quality material
got pushed aside in those early years.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

worst track: rally round the drum
best track: other peoples houses

sorry,no quality link available for my favourite track so heres another one I love:

1...reckless ** (Australian crawl cover)
2...when I first met your ma ***
3...sweet guy waltz **
4...hard times ***
5...other peoples houses ***
6...special treatment **
7...little decisions ***
8...rally round the drum **
9...pastures of plenty ** (woodie Guthrie cover)
10.beggar on the street of love ***
11.pouring petrol on a burning man ***
12.from st.Kilda to kings cross ***
13.brand new ways **

Just ran across this video. I knew this was a country song

^^ One shouldn't laugh. The Bee Gees always had one foot in country, right from their early days, starting with "Massachusetts", well before they wrote "Islands In the Stream" for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. I have an idea that Maurice was the one who was a fan of country. Not sure why I think that; it's something to do with the way he sings - a much deeper and more twangy voice than either Barry or Robin.

Yes. Don't Forget To Remember is a great country song from the Bee Gees too.

What Are You Listening To? - Pharmcat - 18-05-2016

I've been listening to The Band, The Avett Brothers, Cheap Trick and the Eagles. Just got back from Myrtle Beach so Jimmy Buffett is on the brain and a local golden oldies channel down there played a lot of Supremes. "Reflections" is a cool song. Oh, and Vince Gill. Anyone wanting to talk about any of these bands I'm game.

Can't wait for our musical tribute Christmas. You can bet there will be one
Tell them girls to get ready and learn them Haggard songs
